DO NOT STAY HERE. Poor sleep, inconsistent service, and scammy behavior.
Multiple issues from one of the worst hotels we’ve ever stayed at.
The rooms are designed in a way where the doors / balcony do NOT fully seal. As a result of this, the room was incredibly loud. The first night, fireworks were being set off throughout the entire night. (Imagine hearing fireworks from a block away at 4am.) On other nights, music would play late into the evening or early in the morning. On our last evening, the room started smelling smoky, presumably from something happening outside.
In addition, bugs were frequently in the room; I probably got a dozen or so mosquito bites while in the room, mostly while I was (trying to) sleep.
All of this made getting a good night’s sleep impossible while we were there. While things like bugs and noise can’t be completely avoided, especially in a tropical place like Puerto Escondido, the design of the room directly made everything worse, as noise, bugs, and smoke could easily enter the room from all of the gaps in the doors and window.
Overall service was decent - the staff at the restaurants and bars were quick and friendly. We only experienced one issue, which involved the staff forgetting to call a taxi we requested for an early morning tour, resulting in us being late for the tour. (We requested the taxi the evening before the tour.) We requested taxis on several other occasions without issue.
The worst experience with the hotel came at the end. When we first checked in to the room, there was a cloth tote bag in the room, and we were told if we removed it, we would be charged. We never used this bag, but at some point it was taken from the room. At checkout, we were told we had to pay MX$400 for the bag. We even emptied our luggage to show that we had not taken it, but we were still forced for pay. I can only conclude that we were scammed by the hotel. Even more annoyingly, this whole incident delayed our trip to the airport, and the taxi driver who waited for us charged us extra for inconveniencing him.
Overall, if you value sleep and not getting scammed, go...
Read moreI had a fantastic stay at Hotel Xique in Puerto Escondido. It’s a beautiful property with stunning facilities — especially the rooftop, which quickly became my favorite spot. The location is perfect: tucked just off the main road, quiet but still just a 5-minute walk to the beach.
The food and beverage options were incredible, making it easy to spend the whole day at the hotel without needing to go elsewhere. The service was top-notch — huge thanks to Yared, Max, Charlie, and the rest of the team for their warm hospitality and constant attention to detail.
My room was cleaned daily, well air-conditioned, and super comfortable. The staff was always willing to help, whether it was booking a taxi or simply bringing over a glass of water. Not much more you could ask for — I’ll...
Read moreI had a really lovely stay at Xiqué. The rooms are beautiful, always very clean, and mine had a brilliant view out to the sea! It really is a stunning place with beautiful architecture and is such a nice place to come home to every day after being out and about on the beach.
The rooftop pool is a nice chill out area - not too big, but lovely and with a bar next to it.
The hotel is fantastically located, just off the main strip and well lit, which was important to me because I was travelling solo and didn't want to be walking too far in the dark by myself!
My only critique would be that for the money you pay, breakfast wasn't included, and the staff could have been slightly more interactive. Having said this, they were helpful whenever I had a...
