My partner and I stayed at punta Kai and paid roughly 230$ USD per night.
However, there were multiple issues we were not happy with and this is why we requested a refund. (1) for all days except the first one, we did not have access to warm water. One afternoon, we came from the beach and we had no water access at all to take a shower, go to the toilet, etc. until the next day so we had to sleep without a shower after a day at the beach. (2) next to the hotel is a construction site. This construction site has been there for a while as the house’s frame is almost finished. The noise started every morning at 7am (except on Sunday) and woke us up every day. (3) we had important calls to execute in privacy but the internet did not work or was super unstable in our room. (4) the breakfast consisted of some fruits and a toast. (5) the hotel has children working for them. They claimed that “this is Mexico” and “the children are not forced to work”, but I find this completely unacceptable and am not willing to pay the owner of this hotel any money.
Overall, we had a really disappointing experience and also communicated this various times to the hotel. They, however, did not out claims seriously and said that the owner is not willing to refund us for more than 1,000 pesos (56€) which we do not find appropriate for what we paid (850€) as it clearly stands in no relation.
Both for the price we paid and the general expectations we have for a hotel (of this price), we are very...
Read morePunta Kai is a boutique hotel / hostel. I stayed in the dorms. Note that they have 2 x 12 bedroom dorms only and both rooms are mixed, every other room is part of the hotel bit. In my opinion, this place doesn't deserve to have a 4.9 rating, here's my reasons why:-
Dorm rooms are cramped. There is no lock on the door. The bedroom doors are unlocked 24/7 and they don't give you a key for this reason. Safety is a concern as anyone can walk in or out of the bedrooms no problem. There is no storage in the rooms. People's bags and belongings are thrown everywhere. There are lockers (although small) available outside of the bedrooms in the common area but are small, and most are broken. Reception will give you a key to use them. Dorm rooms consist of 12 beds. 3 beds stacked on top of one another. If you're in the top bunk, god help you, it's a nightmare to get in and out of and a real health and safety issue. Bathrooms in the complex are small. I am 5ft 3 with a petite frame and I really struggled with the lack of space in the toilet cubicles. If you're tall or carry any sort of weight, you will struggle. Very poorly designed. Whilst breakfast is included, it's extremely basic, don't expect much. Pool is nice but on the smaller side.
It's a quiet hostel, very chilled and overly sociable. No events or WhatsApp group to meet people.
Location is a short 3min stroll to La Punta Beach and overall the place is clean which is a...
Read moreWe spent a few nights at Punta Kai and our stay was absolutely wonderful from start to finish.
We were a little hesitant to book initially due to the fact that the hotel is so new. That said, we were very surprised upon our arrival to see how nice, clean and comfortable it was.
One of our main concerns was that maybe the hostel crowd would be to loud for us but we had zero issues with noise throughout our stay.
We stayed in the Zipolite room with the private jacuzzi. The room itself was perfectly spotless thanks to the great job by the cleaning lady who was really kind and hard-working. The air conditioning worked great and the balcony/terrace was a great place to relax and enjoy the sunsets.
The roof is one of the best parts of the hotel as there is a shaded area where you can bring your laptop to work. The property is equipped with Starlink Internet and it worked perfectly during our stay.
Lastly, the staff was always friendly, kind and helpful. Overall we would highly recommend staying here and we will very likely be back...
