Disturbing Experience
We stayed at Hostal Rhodas for 7 nights. In the beginning we felt comfortable there and Manuel the owner was beeing really friendly and helpful. It wasn’t until the last night that something really DISTURBING occurred to us. The girl in our room, who felt sick told us that he had offered to give her a face massage (to make her feel better) and suddenly kissed her on the lips without consent!! She was so shocked and felt really uncomfortable. He kept coming to the room „checking“ on her, eventough she told him that she felt uncomfortable and wanted him to leave her alone. He asked her if she wants to marry him?!?? (she is in her 20s and Manuel is clearly older) and tried to kiss her again, even after she made it very clear that she wants to be left alone. That behaviour is completely unacceptable and we decided to leave the next day. A Hostal should be a safe place (especially for women) and as a Host you must ensure that you do everything in your power to protect and help your guests. And not take advantage of people that are in a vulnerable position because they don’t know the language, the culture or are solo travelling ect. … As a women I would think twice before considering to stay...

I stand beside the point of my original review, that it is unprofessional to use a guest's contact information without consent for political group chats, especially when they include graphic videos. I do not appreciate being called a liar, hater or 'white colonizer' out of the blue. If this response was mistakenly posted under the wrong review, please edit. I wish the owner and his family all the best.
INITIAL REVIEW (2023/2024):
The place itself is decent enough, nothing special. But during my stay, I was added to a whatsapp group about the current conflict in Israel and Palestine. Just today, months after staying, again I got added to a whatsapp community about the conflict. I find this highly unprofessional, using my contact information...
Read moreI stayed here with my wife in September 2022. We loved our stay here very much. It’s not the typical hostel atmosphere it feels more like visiting your old friend Manuel. Manuel is a very friendly and helpful host that made us feel very welcome!
Manuel explained us the various ways how to get to La Malinche - and when I asked if he would like to go with us he was happy to join us and another couple from GB! (!!!). We started very early (5am) and went with local transportation (colectivos) to the starting point of the hike. We started shortly after 9 and made it to the top shortly after 1pm - and enjoyed and truly awesome view! We made it back just in time to catch the one and only 5pm colectivo back to the next town. It is a really hard and strenuous hike: 14km long and 1350m up and 1350m down - make sure your acclimatized well as the peak...
