Update: June 2023 stayed for 2 weeks (6/4-18/2023)- CASITA 16. Since my last review (see below), I'm compelled to come back here and edit this to a 5 star!!! This will be our new summer tradition. We tried the large 2 story casita for 2 whole weeks and it's truly heavenly. Perfect for my husband's remote work since wifi has been reliable and the amazing view from the bedroom balcony upstairs.
I just want to add the amazing security, housekeeping, front desk, maintenance, groundskeeper staff- everyone working at this small boutique hotel has made our stay truly remarkable. I actually looked forward to having our casita cleaned everyday (lol). We are already booked for the Thanksgiving week!!!
Tip to save $$$ since it's very expensive around here:
wash your own clothes and hang it to dry "inside" your casitas- they'll dry fast without that nasty moldy smell
pickup your groceries at that Cheadraui supermarket before checking in and cook your own food (this place will even lend you a grill)- prices in nearby convenient stores are double the price and restaurants are overrated. I do suggest the Tavern - that's the only place I didn't get sick. The breakfast at that nearby LolHa had a mold in it- yuck. I also got violently sick after buying a frozen shrimp and tuna at the nearby grocery store. Good thing they also sell medicine for it- lol.
-Rent a golf cart (costs $55-60 /day). It's so relaxing just cruising around the neighborhood. Great way to visit Yalku Lagoon, and also nearby restaurants like La Buena Vida, La Lunita, etc.
book that massage! They'll come to your casita. It's $60 for 1 hr. - we got the aromatherapy one
Overall, this place is truly a hidden gem. I don't want to leave.
March 2023: We were staying in another condo in half moon bay when we discovered Las Casitas. We fell in love with its location...calm water with NO SARGASSUM and walking distance to the Dive Shop and restaurants. Oh and their wifi.. SUPER FAST!!! We felt safe during our 3 night stay. If you love to snorkle this is the ultimate place. As soon as you get in the water you'll see variety of species...incredible! It would have been perfect if there's tv, washing...
Read moreSunshine, Shorts, Sandals, and Service|Some people like to pack lots of activities into their vacations. I don't. I have enough activity in my nursing job. When I can get away, I like to relax at a beach, wear shorts and sandals, and be tended to by competent staff. Las Casitas is that kind of place.||Of late, the Riviera Maya beaches have been affected by sargasso. Fortunately, the ocean current gods push the sargasso away from the Las Casitas beach, allowing you to swim, snorkel, paddle board, and kayak like the old days. During my stay, I think the beautiful and relaxing new pool got as much use as the beach.||I like to visit quaint, local restaurants when I travel (and sometimes order out for delivery). My recommendations while staying at Las Casitas are the restaurants at Lol Ha, Turtle Bay, and La Cueva, all within walking distance. (Personal Note: the margueritas at Lol Ha are the best in the Yucatan.)||My travel partners like to purchase groceries and prepare meals. You can easily do that in the fully equipped casitas. And if you want to grill out, a Weber-like grill with charcoal will be delivered to your casita and the charcoal will be lit for you. (Personal Note: try the 1 1/2-inch rib eye steaks from Chedraui Supermarket in Playa Aventuras.)||I don't need daily housekeeping services, but it's a nice touch provided by Las Casitas. The camaristas are very friendly and meticulous. ||For a get-away alone, or with friends or family, Las Casitas is the place for me. I'm planning my...
Read moreMy famly had stayed before and enjoyed the condo and location. This time was very different. While trying to light the stove, my husband was engulfed in a ball of flame. There were no instructions - we checked. He was burned on his arms, face and had his eyebrows, long eyelashes and hair on his head burnt off. It was very scary and could have been much worse. The smell of burnt hair was alarming. Adrian, the manager came by, apologized and promised there would be compensation. Cheryl Ragan, reservations manager/owner also apologized and promised there would be compensation. My husband and I did not sleep much that night and noticed the sheets were poly/cotton. We asked for cotton sheets to help his sleep - they simply said they didn't have any. He could not swim in the ocean or be in the sun because of his burns and this pretty much ruined the rest of our week in Akumal. The next day, they changed out the faulty stove, but did not check on my husband. Cheryl later said it was out of her hands and passed over to the board of directors, but they never contacted us again. Accidents happen, but this felt different. We noticed that the units seemed to have gas monitors, but the alarm didn't go off in our unit (18) and we think it was faulty, did not smell any excess gas. Stay away. Dishonest. Unsafe. Shameful. Including photos of some of my husband's burns and the burnt hair on the...
