Worst resort experience ever… We spent 6 days at Planet Hollywood Cancun. For one of the newer resorts, it was falling apart. We reserved a room with a swim up pool, which was the saving grace for the trip. This review will be long, so if you would like to know what you would be getting yourselves into, sit back, relax, and read on… Rooms-there was a group of us who spent our time here. The rooms were very nice. They were cleaned and restocked regularly. If you must visit this resort, highly recommend the swim up rooms. This is the only thing that made Planet Suck-E-Wood bearable. The complaint was the hot water was pretty much non existent. If you use room service call an hour in advance that’s how long it takes ! Food- Buffet- small buffet without a lot of choices. The breakfast was decent, but 1 pan of bacon for the entire buffet meant long lines, and most of the time, the pan was empty. Lunch and dinner were not good at all. Golden Corral has a way better selection with better tasting food. Hibachi- Everyone kept saying, “do your reservations at midnight!” Still was never able to get a reservation even though it was always empty. We went in and asked for seating without a reservation. We were seated but not at the hibachi with a limited menu. Looking around, there were like 10 to 12 hibachi grills with only 2 being used the entire hour or so we were there. Basically, the place was empty. This meal was actually the best thing we ate at Planet Suck-E-Wood. Steak Restaurant-We were seated, again in a mostly empty restaurant. Took over 2 hours to get all parts of the meal. Service was horrible, and food wasn’t that good. Sports Bar-small place, always packed with loud drunk 18yr olds. It has a pool table and a few tables with a few tv’s showing sports.  They refused to change the channel for the NBA Finals advising that we need to pay to see the game. Service was quick, but the food is small portions. Braza Grill - reservation only for outside on the deck. Sitting outside sweating, we requested that they turn on the ceiling fans. We were advised the fans were not working at this time. So there we sat with the sun setting, sweating while trying to eat our dinners. Better breakfast here than buffet, though! Adults only pool was decent. It's too small for the number of adults there. The pool bar is always packed, which is expected with such a small pool. Getting any frozen drinks… the blenders were always broken. We didn’t go to the other pools due to children running around everywhere. Lazy River- was looking forward to the Lazy River with a cave bar. Couldn’t get inside the Cave bar with children in floats getting their non alcoholic drinks plus the 18 year olds never leaving. Floating around the river, kids screaming and splashing everywhere. Silent Disco- garbage! Out of the 3 stations, only 1 worked. We were told about technical difficulties with their equipment. Worst silent disco we’ve ever been a part of. The Burlesque type show, Michael Jackson performer, Cirque du Soleil type show, and the dancing show, you needed reservations 2 days in advance to sit in the audience in front of the stage. You were able to watch the show but had to stand outside of the seated areas with a lot of empty tables and chairs near the stage. Night Club… open 10p to 2a… was always packed, which was expected. The a/c… ha… you would sweat off 20lbs just standing there. The bar near the entertainment stage and club was always packed. 15 minutes on average for a drink with 2 bartenders only working. Plus, the bartenders were demanding tips to get your drinks. If you didn’t have money in your hand, they would skip right over you. And heaven forbid you ask for a frozen drink… you either got attitude from the bartender or they would say the blender is broken, more the latter. I’ve never been to a resort where you couldn’t sit and watch the shows, get into a restaurant, or had bartenders and everyone demanding tips before they serve you. Luckily, this was Cancun! DO NOT RECOMMEND PLANET SUCK-E-WOOD, theres much better resorts around!!!

Stayed here in October 2025 on honeymoon - adult side non-star class. All of the staff we encountered during our stay were wonderful, super friendly and helpful. When we told the check-in staff we were here on honeymoon, we were given a romantic dinner on the beach and upgraded to star class facilities free of charge (additional restaurant, pools, bars, smaller gym and lobby facilities where snacks/drinks are provided). The grounds of the hotel are immaculate and the room was clean. However, despite the hotel being only 4 years old the rooms are showing some wear and tear and some of the finishes aren't up to scratch for a 5 ☆ hotel e.g. cupboards are showing warping, caulking in the bathroom isn't neat, tile grout is discoloured, art work in the room is missing letters off the film quote, the film reel above the bed is peeling/tarnished. This didn't change the experience of our holiday though but this is the reason for the deduction of a star on the room side of things. Many people report the rooms are damp and we certainly noticed this when we arrived, however after running aircon constantly that seemed to resolve this and we were aware a dehumidifier could be requested if needed but we didn't feel it was necessary. The rooms contain a mini fridge which consists of water, beer and pepsi, diet pepsi and 7up. It was disappointing that the consistency of having this refilled varied. Despite leaving a note requesting more water is left, this was never fulfilled. On a few nights, someone come around to do a 'turn down' service which was a nice touch but again this was inconsistent. There are a good choice of restaurants which have to be prebooked via the Royalton app for your evening meal. We tried every restaurant on site during our stay and didn't have any trouble making reservations however we did stay out of season so this may differ depending how busy the resort is. The food portions are small, to get around this we'd order extra which was always accomodated. We enjoyed Braza for breakfast which is available on the adult only side, lunch we tended to use the star class pool bar/Guys Burgers most, evening meals we really disliked Gusto (Italian) as the meal was not good quality and seemed to be microwaved rather than fresh given the speed the food came out to us, but, we enjoyed La Cocina (Mexican), Braza (Brazilian), Sunset Strip (Steakhouse) and East Teppanyaki (Japanese). One of the frustrating things is the inconsistency of drinks, particularly cocktails. The bars do not have cocktail menus and the skill of the bar tenders as well as the products available to them varied so much some made them with bare minimum alcohol whereas others were genorous. I'm from the UK where drinks are measured, they do not measure here so asking for a double doesn't work. My advice is if you like them strong ask, find a good bar/bartender and stick to them where possible. They also don't provide straws here. Whilst I understand that not providing plastic straws for the environment is a good thing, there's no reason why the hotel can't provide reusable metal straws. We knew this was a thing beforehand and brought our own. The pools at the resort were all really nice, clean and the water was really refreshing to cool off on a hot day. We didn't have trouble finding a lounger even when we only went to the pool in the afternoon after being at the beach. That being said, the pools were always busy and I imagine it'll be a different tale if travelling in season. The beach at the resort is beautiful, white sands and clear waters. The sea was warm too which was again nice to paddle in or go for a swim to cool off. The entertainment wasn't our thing as we wanted a chilled holiday and we also didn't attend the onsite nightclub 'Studio Disco' so we can't comment on that. We did a day trip to visit the Mayan temples, a Mayan village, Vallanoid and a cenote which was a long day but well worth doing if you want to experience some culture whilst here. This was booked via Nexus onsite as we found they had the best package/price.

We spent 5 nights at Planet Hollywood Cancun just before Thanksgiving, hoping for a fun, all-inclusive experience with great beach vibes and activities for the kids. Unfortunately, it ended up being a “meh” experience compared to our previous stays in Cancun (Moon Palace Grand, you win). Before we even arrived, I was bombarded daily by virtual concierges pushing spa treatments, cabanas, and “exclusive” deals. I booked three pool cabanas, thinking this would be a highlight, but when we got there, the top-shelf booze they promised turned out to be a cheaper version. I’d booked the cabanas for JW Black Label whiskey, but we got JW Red instead. After a bit of drama, they honored it, but pro tip: double-check what you're getting, especially if alcohol is a big deal to you. Check-in took 30 minutes, and when we finally got to our room, it smelled strongly of humidity. The room itself was spacious, but “budget chic” is a polite way to describe the design. Imagine Home Depot clearance section with a hint of “this will do.” To make matters worse, none of the closet doors would stay shut, creating an ongoing light show that was both annoying and dangerous with two kids running around. At least the view wasn’t bad—mini golf, kiddie pools, and the ocean in the distance. The sunsets were nice, though! Now, let’s talk cabanas. Booking them was a game-changer. We had Cabana 17 for three days, right by the bar, which was perfect. Our server was amazing—attentive, friendly, and the best part of our trip. If I could’ve given her a promotion, I would have. She was everything the hotel should’ve been. One thing to note: bring your own straws, as they are anti-straw in Cancun for eco-friendly reasons. The grounds were lush, and the pools were… pools. The lazy river was freezing, but it was still fun. The foam parties at the main pool were a blast, but if you enjoy synchronized swimming, skip the mermaid show. It was more “meh” than magical. Mini golf was fun, though, if you’re okay with waiting for clubs (they don’t believe in having enough). At least the beach was fantastic—soft sand, gentle waves, and plenty of drinks. When it comes to food, don’t expect fine dining. We tried Gusto Italian, Sunset Strip Steakhouse, Teppanyaki, La Cocina Mexican, and the buffet. Slow service was the norm, likely due to being understaffed. We didn’t do Star Class but still had to fight for dinner reservations each night. The standout meals were La Cocina and Teppanyaki, though neither was particularly impressive. Oh, and if you’re hoping for quick pizza at the pool, be prepared for a two-hour wait. Definitely not the kind of timing you want on vacation. Room service was another letdown. I called for a missing hair dryer and waited 23 minutes just to hear they couldn’t promise one within an hour. Spoiler: I never got it. My mom had to lend me hers, but she was on a different floor, making that a convenient solution. If you’re a light sleeper, this hotel is not for you. Two nights, there was a wedding party near Gusto Italian, and the music was so loud I could lip-sync along to the songs from three buildings away. When I called the front desk, they couldn’t give me a time when it would end. It felt like being at a nightclub, not a family resort, and it’s clear they don’t understand “quiet time” at all. This was a major issue, especially with kids trying to sleep. The kids enjoyed the trampoline park and arcade for about an hour, but the arcade was tiny, and the trampoline park wasn’t exactly worth a day’s worth of entertainment. Both felt more like afterthoughts than standout features. Finally, the location. If you’re hoping to explore Cancun’s food scene or attractions, forget it unless you rent a car. The resort is pretty far from anything interesting, so if you’re planning to get out and about, be prepared to drive. In the end, we made the best of our stay, and our family had fun, but honestly, we won’t be back. Planet Hollywood Cancun didn’t live up to our expectations, and next time, we’ll stick with what we know works.

Star Class Swim Out 4.5/5 Stars |If you can afford it, I would do it. There is a green room in building 21 with snacks and coffee you can sit inside if you want to hang out and chill somewhere that isn’t your room with AC during the day. Our butler Dorian was great and he went above and beyond in making our stay special, relaxed and stress free. He helped us with booking all our restaurants on the day we arrived which I highly recommend to do. The Steakhouse and Italian are the most popular, so if it something you want to try, make sure to plan ahead because it is difficult to change the times. Having a butler doesn’t dissolve you of planning what you want and around your own excursions you book. It is not our first time in Mexico and we booked Xcaret excursion before arriving to Mexico and knew we wanted to do Isla Mujeres so we booked our a la carte restaurants accordingly so we could try all the restaurants we wanted to try. Dorian also helped us with giving advice on transportation to Isla Mujeres, he booked us a taxi at 630am and took Uber back to the hotel. Dorian also helped us book our room service so we could have some coffee, bananas and fruit loos for our daughter before leaving for our excursions early in the morning since breakfast menu doesn’t start until after 6am. ||The junior swim out room was super convenient, especially for our family. We would spend the morning and afternoon by the pool or beach then after lunch when hubby wanted to take a nap we had a swim out to hang out with my 6 year old who doesn’t nap anymore. Our room had two double beds and a couch, the bathroom was big with double vanity, large shower with shower head and rain shower up top. The room came with nice details like a free PH Cancun beach bag, welcome champagne and a bottle od red wine. We also got to select a premium bottle of liquor when we checked in. |||Activities & Entertainment|There are a lot of fun activities for everyone in all the pool areas and beach throughout the day. They have an app that you can download that gives you details about what events are happening where and what time. We also had the convenience of our butler that sends us WhatsApp reminders everyday for those activies. |During busier times February - May they run foam parties in each main pool areas twice a week. In July when we went it was only once a week but we made it work on the day of check out. There was also this activity signs throughout the resort and in the morning there are Star Trooper animation staff that would go around and inform everyone of what’s going on that day. ||We attended a few dance parties, circus night, Wonderland themed night at the main theatre which was really nice. It is very hot in July and the main stage area does not have any over head awning or shade or air flow. I think the hotel should get big fans around that area to make it more comfortable and enjoyable. |||Kids Club & Kids Pool|The girls who run the Stars Kids Club do an amazing job. Thank you Itzel, Cinthya, Wendy, Tere, Bere, Alis and Fatima! My daughter had a blast, you have raised the bar for Kids Club standards and I know my daughter will be comparing PH Cancun Kids club to everything other one she goes to from now on. ||The Kids Club is open from 10am to 6pm with lunch time from 1pm-2pm for staff to have lunch and take a break. Their is different programming everyday and I see many kids excited to go. All my daughter wanted to do tthe last 3 days was live at the kids club because it was so that kind of vibe. The pirate and dinosaur themed days were my daughter’s favorite, she made lots of cool crafts she was proud to take home and cookies. ||The kids pool area has nice dinosaur and pirate themed installations and slides. The water is adult calf height level and it is not a deep pool which is great for younger kids. |||Beach|The beach is great, clean with barely any seaweed during seaweed season. While the rest of Cancun down the hotel zone have stinky heavy seaweed problems this stretch of beach on Costa Mujeres has very little and whatever does come to the shore is cleaned up by the hotel. |||Safety|There is a police stationed at the beach which I think is normal and expected now anywhere in Mexico and made us feel safer that there was active patrolling. |||Property Maintenance|The resort is big but not massive and sprawling like some other resort I’ve been to where it’s a drag to walk from your room to anywhere else. It’s a good size resort and everything is less than a 5 minute walk if you are a slow walker with short stubby legs like me 😂||It is a newer hotel I believe about 5 years but and there are small wear and tear you can see but nothing insanely shocking or ugly I’ve seen. People need to keep in mind that heat and water also wear down hotels and need to have realistic expectations. I live in Toronto where there is yearly maintenance on roads because of the extreme cold weather in winter, salt and water getting into everything. ||I’ve see people cleaning the pools daily in the morning when I wake up at 6am which I appreciate. The lazy river has a bar in the middle and people will leave their empty cups around the edges, but I’ve seen staff walking the lazy river route and collecting them. All the greenery around the resort is well kept. You will even find little friends like Iguana’s roaming around and hiding amongst them. ||Our room was a little humid, but we are in the Carribbean so it is as expected and was it surprised by this. The hotel does offer a dehumidifier which is the first time I’ve seen a hotel offer one. I’ve stayed at many 5 star hotels in the carribean and not one had this service available. There is a waitlist for it, so if you think you need it get one asap. |||Food, Restaurants & Water|Star Class has its own section in the buffet, where we mainly ate for breakfast, except for days where we had to get up early. We did A La Carte Dinners 5 times Italian, Mexican, Steakhouse and Sushi/Hibachi and did Steakhouse twice and we did not eat at the Indian restaurant. For lunch we ate at Gusto, Guys Burgers and the sports bar. Non of us got sick but we practice not eating fruits, vegetables, salads or garnishes like cilantro that we can’t wash or peel ourselves or that is not uncooked. We do eat out steaks medium rare and we had some manchego cheese and prosuito. Water bottles are available in your room and are refilled everyday. There are water refill stations by the pool and is filtered and with ice from filtered water. The restaurant a la carte quality has been the best out of all of the AI resorts I’ve been to. Osso bucco, pizza, calamari frito and the eggplant appetizer were 👌🏻at Gusto and Brisker at the Steakhouse was juicy and fall off the fork delicious. |||Lounge Chairs|This was my biggest pet peeve. People were out saving chairs by 6am, so if you aren’t an early riser you may not get one. There are people who stay all day and reserve a spot and don’t come back until well after lunch. We always took our things as a family when we thought we would be gone for a while to free up spots. I do feel there probably could be more chairs and umbrellas in all the pools throughout the kids, Star Class and main Non Star Class pools. The Adult Scene section has the auto filter of not allowing guests access for people under 18 so the chair game there is less intense. I wake up early so it wasn’t a deal breaker for us but was a...

I don’t normally write reviews but would like to share our experience from our 2 week holiday in Dec24. We always do adults only and this was definitely not adults only and various items were chargeable.|The staff were very good and there was a variety of restaurants with very good food and service.|Our arrival the initial impression was disappointing as the coach did not take us to the main entrance which was on family side but to a side entrance which was a room with a couple of check in desks.|The rooms were nice but we did have problems with the AC but the maintenance people came quickly but after 3 tries to get it fixed we gave up. The beds we’re comfortable and had good balconies. The fridge was topped up on a regular basis but only with 4 water, 2 beer and a few fizzy drinks. A few cans of cocktails or fruit juice would of been a nice option. Optic drinks was an empty unit-extra charge.|The holiday was spoilt by a number of small things which became niggling:-|Had to get up very early to get sun beds-if later than 6.30 would struggle to get beds together. People got loads of towels and saved beds in various places and on a few occasions some were not used all day- so if people were restricted to one towel it would resolve this and save work for staff collecting them in and reduce the laundry so it would be a win win. Adults from the family side and star class also used the adults only pool and there was never enough beds but there were double beds that hardly got used as they were payable. One day a manager appeared as someone complained about no beds and she collected in towels in the adults only side but staff helped reserve beds in the star class side all of he time!!!!!!|Around the adults pool area there was no tables with seats to relax -only had approx 10 deck chairs.|The hot tub was good and always very busy - probably because the pool was so cold (it was ok when you were in but that initial getting in was cold). I would sneak into the star class pool early in the morning for a swim as it was heated.|Pool toilets were clean and well maintained. There was a clothes shop near the pool - nice things but seemed expensive|The idea of all inclusive was so my teenage sons could eat whenever but the burger bar and pizza places were in the centre of the family side and had long waits of 30 minutes up to 1.5 hours on one occasion - so they would order the food come back to the pool and then have go back again. Burgers and pizza were nice but the wait was too long. There was one pizza place one the very far side of the family side which was quicker and was approx.15 minutes. Most days a food unit was set up but was a specific food like paella or sushi. The star class did have a snack bar but the adults only could not use it - if the same building had a counter on the adults side then all the guests could have snacks.|People did come round tge pool most days to try and sell spa treatments and trips out but they weren’t pushy.|Staff were very quick to make sure that people did not use the payable sunbeds if payment had been made.|We tried the buffet restaurant a few times- the adults only area was very cold and children were in each time. People had to wait to get in and whilst there was a large selection of food available the staff could not cope with demand and could not be replenished quick enough- the staff did very well but were unable to cope with the number of people - we tried to avoid eating in the buffet by booking a restaurant every day.|The coffee bar was on the family side and there was always a wait as they did ice creams as well (loads of kids)- no place to sit and relax with a cuppa and cake and no hot chocolate on the menu.|The adults only bar on a night time had limited seats approx 6-8 double seats, 3 bistro tables and a few stools along the bar- this was a nice area but not enough for the adults only side. and entertainment was very limited. There was a star class room close by but was empty most of the time. Entertainment was limited with the ocasional singer so had to go to family area every evening for the stage shows but struggled to get a seats. One night a week stalls were set out sell local goods Which was nice.|One night we experienced some guests racing round on mobility scooters which seem dangerous and should of been stopped but i was impressed with how the security dealt with s guy who was drunk being a pest to other guests.|Adults only side had a Brazilian and fish restaurant on an evening but the bulk of the restaurants like steak, Indian, Itailian .. all on the family side.|I did enjoy breakfast at the brazilian restaurant- food and service were excellent every time.|For me the entertainment was very poor as i have always done yoga but again it was in the fitness area in the family side and was at 8.15 every day which did not work as this was when went for breakfast and i’m sure would not work for people with children.|Entertainment was aqua aerobics but wasn’t ever day and a foam party which we experienced about 4 times and some days water volleyball. There was no pool side games. My lads enjoyed the crazy golf and table tennis but yet again only on the family side.|Did Rue palace DR last year and there was something going on in 3-4 places at gr same time and yoga outside was available 3-4 times a day as well (in fact for me it was faultless with no extras to pay for) When i booked i thought my sons would enjoy the surfing experience but it was chargeable at 49USD each- so they wouldn’t try it.|The beach was close by with a couple of bars which were nice but beds were limited and star class...

Overall, I would rate our experience a 4.5/5. We had an amazing time! We mostly chose this resort for the lazy river & a la carte restaurant options for every meal. Check-in was super simple and we loved the welcome cocktails! The bellboys were quick to secure our bags and allowed us to go back and grab whatever we needed while waiting for our room to be made. We went straight to the lazy river to cool off 10/10. The room was a lot bigger than we expected (adult junior swim out). We did notice a musty smell as soon as we walked in, but the humidity didn’t bother us at all and the AC and ceiling fan worked perfectly. The room definitely had a bit of wear and tear for being a fairly new resort - however, this was minor and we didn’t let it bother us. The staff was super welcoming on out first day and throughout our whole stay. ||Restaurants!!||Braza - we ate here almost every morning. Small buffet selection paired with an a la carte breakfast menu. There was also a breakfast taco station which was a nice addition. Staff were really attentive to my partner’s gluten allergy and used a separate fryer for his hash browns!! We also really enjoyed braza for dinner. We were specific on how we liked our meat cooked and it was perfect every time! The picaña, chicken & cinnamon sugar pineapple were highlights. Overall excellent service. We loved Herman, Manuel, Javier, Jesus and Moses to name a few!! The hostesses were wonderful as well!! ||Catch - we ate here for most lunches. Since this restaurant was so close to our room and the adult pool, it was a great option and allowed us to keep our pool chairs without being away too long. The food was mostly very good. After being there 10 days, we knew exactly what to order and had a few favourite dishes (spinach salad, corn and crab chowder, shrimp, salmon, steak). We are spoiled with amazing seafood back home, so set our expectations low. We are happy to say that our overall experience at catch surpassed our expectations. Our big highlight was fresh guac, pico de gallo and chips for the table before every meal!! Shoutout to the same servers listed above! ||Buffet - we aren’t really buffet people but we went twice for lunch just to try it out. Overall a good experience! Good variety of food and great service. ||Gusto - sadly only 1 gluten free option for my partner (lunch hour) which was sad because we loved it here and still had a great experience! Because of the limited options we only went once. ||Guy’s - fun and quick option for lunch! Hit the spot & was nice to take back to enjoy at our swim out. ||La cocina - the fresh guac and chips were so good. Appetizers were delicious and our mains were just fair! Would definitely go back just for the snackier items. Service excellent as always!||Sutra - we really loved our meal here! We are both Indian food lovers so it hit the spot. Great service. ||Sunset strip steakhouse - best food experience on our trip. We ended up cancelling our Mexican food reservations to come back a second time. The corn chowder, onion rings and garden salad were all delicious. The NY strips were perfectly cooked to our liking and the Texas corn incredible. Our server Filiberto was the best! We requested him when we went back the second time and once again, he did not disappoint! Frequent wine refills and brought us extra portions of the side dishes we loved. ||Sushi - went twice and loved everything! For an all inclusive, this a la carte sushi was quite good & the appetizers and mains were delicious. Our server Javier was simply the best! Overall great experience. ||Teppanyaki - we were a bit frustrated because we booked an 8pm reso, waited 30mins to be seated and then another 30mins for the chef to start (probably not his fault). He was a great entertainer and we loved the experience!! Food was so delicious. ||Fuel - great way to start the day. My fixation was the ham & cheese croissant. We ended up asking for double shot lattes, 10/10 recommend as the regular ones are a bit weak!||OT sports bar - fun spot to watch sports and have some food/drink. ||Bars - most of the drinks were quite sweet but delicious!! We ended up doing simple liquor + soda drinks for most of the trip. Espresso martinis made with Bailey’s were one of our fav evening drinks! The premiere bar and scene bar could make them for us. Our favourite bartender of all time was Karina at the scene bar!!! She was such a sweetheart and made us smile every time we saw her. She is so great at her job!! We were so sad to say goodbye!||The swim out room was 100% worth it for us. We loved the convenience of coming back to our room for comfort/AC and more quiet/private swims. The little cabana was wonderful and the loungers were well loved. We could still hear music from the adult pool which was fun!||Night life was just fair, but we were ok with that as we are early sleepers/risers. ||Beach - gorgeous sand & water! My partner thought there was too much seaweed so didn’t swim. I still enjoyed it and the water was like bath water! We really enjoyed walking the beach during sunrise. ||Pools - we only really spent time at the adult pool which was perfect for us. Close to our rooms & had everything we needed. We only found out on day 8 that we could order food to the pool after 1pm. I loved water aerobics after a few morning margaritas! My partner hated it. 😂||Check out took less than a minute & we were given a card so that we could enjoy all of the amenities before our late...
