We are just finishing our 1 week stay at the Planet Hollywood Adult Scene Resort in Cancun, through Sunwing/Westjet Vacations. There are many positive things to mention, as well as areas that need some work. The check-in did take some time, but was pretty seamless. The lobby and lounge area at the adult scene is pretty simple compared to the lavish decor of the other areas of the resort (an observation, not a complaint.) Our room was in building 13 and we thought the space was a nice size, very clean and nicely appointed with various movie and music features used to decorate. The pool chair situation is a real issue. There are not enough chairs and umbrellas to service all of the guests. I imagine that if the beach didnt have such a seaweed issue at this time of year, there would be enough chairs and shade for everyone to enjoy themselves. I have been at other resorts where they have a team of workers raking seaweed every morning. I suggest that the resort consider redirecting some of the dozens of staff that are assigned to upselling excursions, shopping packages, loyalty programs, etc. to making the beach more appealing to the guests. We are early risers so had our towels out by 7am to secure our preferred location by the pool. The pool area was clean, well-kept, and we never had any issues to get as many towels as we needed. The entertainment team was pleasant and positive. The servers around the pool area were always attentive. All of your reservations are conducted through the app. We had a minor issue on the first day to book our a la cartes as it showed many restaurants fully booked. After checking back a few time throughout the day we could secure a spot for us. You may not get your ideal time, but if you are on a strict schedule I suggest the buffet. The portion sizes in the restaurants are pretty small, so don't feel ashamed to order another entree if you are not satisfied. We ate at the Indian, Italian, Japanese and Guy's Burger restaurants while there. Each had good food. Nothing extraordinary but we never left hungry or worse, sick. Most of your activities will take place on the family side, be it shows, restaurants, disco, movie theater, mini golf, gym, lazy river, batting cage, and basketball courts. It takes a bit of time to get yourself oriented with the grounds, but once you take some time to explore, finding things becomes easier. The decor around the resort is interesting to see if you like entertainment. Plenty of showcases pepper the hallways with unique clothing and props from well-known and not-so well-known films. The night time entertainment was ok. Each evening there is something scheduled at the outdoor pavillion. It usually starts with an activity for kids to engage in on the stage. The few times we were there to see that portion, it seemed a repeat activity from the previous night. Following the kids show, there is an interactive quiz game you can play from your phone with the MC on stage directing it. I found the technology didn't always work well, so gave up the few times I tried playing. The resort puts a lot of effort to have great props set up and backdrops for some of the night time shows (e.g., Wizard Show), I just wish they put the same level of quality into the actual entertainment. We never lasted an entire show, often times leaving after 20 minutes. One final observation I would like to make pertains to the activities around July 1 and 4. We are from Canada, and celebrate the confederation of our country on the first with Canada Day. The resort honoured the day with staff wearing t-shirts with a maple leaf on them, a foam party at the family side pool, and the stage at the pavillion had the word "Canada" hung from it. We did not attend the foam party because we prefer to stay on the Adults-only side. We did hear from others that did attend the foam party on the family side, that they began with our National anthem, but some kids began to show their own patriotism during the playing of the anthem by yelling USA during it's playing. This is not the responsibility of the resort to enforce respect for other cultures but it certainly didn't sit welll with me. Overall I thought that the subtle touches the resort did for their Canadian guests was nice...that is until we saw the extravagance placed into the 4th of July. If you are American, I would have been very pleased with the effort the resort put into honouring Indeoendence Day. American flags, decor, staff in red, white and blue costumes that mimicked Apollo Creed's boxing outfit, complete with top hat. You had people on stilts, a special outdoor buffet with American food next to the Adult side pool, mini parades with Bruce Springsteen blaring from the loud speaker, and foam party at the Adult pool. And all this before dinner! We dined at the buffet that evening and it was USA-themed food everywhere! From red, white and blue sushi and desserts to chicken wings, burgers. They went all out. The night time show had American-themed decor and music, and fireworks too. I don't want to turn this into a political post, but the difference between the 2 days was VERY evident. Considering a Canadian company, Blue Diamond Resorts, owns and operates the Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Cancun I thought this was...interesting. Now I am sure that the percentage of US guests outweighs that of other countries, hence the special treatment. Overall the resort was fine, we were treated well, the food was good, drinks were plentiful and we did enjoy making new friends from all over the world. We won't be returning as we had had better experiences in other resorts for a small premium, but there is nothing wrong with...
Read moreI traveled here with family. 14 adults and 3 kids. Everyone had a blast! These reviews had me shook- and I’m glad I didn’t change my reservation at the last minute.
We booked on Agoda. Resort did not provide us Marriott benefits because we did not book with Marriott.
They gave us cold refreshing towels and a welcome drink at check in. The bell hop helped us with our bags. Our room was immaculate. We had view of the Churasco restaurant and the ocean. The resort grounds are lovely. The resort is similar to the size of a themed park. It’s a lot of walking. My wife and I stayed on the adult side and we had access to family side. Next time around, I would probably choose to stay on family side. Most of the pools, the lazy river, the main buffet, the spa, the gym , Most of the bars, most of the restaurants are on family side. Adult side has two restaurants, and one pool. The beach can be accessed from both sides of the resort.
I did not have star class, my brother and his family did have star class and there are some benefits that I noticed that made it worth it. Star class guests have access to a different buffet and the food there is a higher quality and it’s less crowded and there are views of the beach. Star class guests have access to their own pool and pool bar that serve top shelf drinks.
Restaurants. We got lucky with reservations. Reservations for every restaurant were not available each day but at least one restaurant had availability on the days I stayed. Even if you don’t have reservations, you can walk in and be seated by the host. We tried the Indian restaurant, the Brazilian steak house, the seafood restaurant, the Teppanyaki restaurant, the main buffet , the coffee shop, the burger joint, and the star class buffet (as guests of my brother) for breakfast. My wife also tried the Italian restaurant Gusto.
Our best dinner experience was at the Indian restaurant. Our second best dinner is a tie between the Brazilian steakhouse and the seafood place. We enjoyed the teppanyaki dinner. Fried rice was amazing but I didn’t think the quality of the cuts of meat was that great. I found the main buffet to be overcrowded but there was always something there I can enjoy. Something noteworthy is that the coffee shop is also an ice cream shop. I enjoyed the red velvet cupcakes and the matcha options. The burgers were always cooked well done and extra dry… I still chose to eat it for lunch on several days. My wife loved the lunch at the Italian restaurant, something noteworthy is that there is fried calamari on the menu.
We checked with our concierge daily for deals. We got a deal on a spa package. We had massages on the beach and tried hydrotherapy 2 days later. The hydrotherapy was a magical experience and I wish my family would have booked it as well. The massage on the beach was not the best for me because I didn’t like getting the massage with sand on my body.
The beach is beautiful. The lazy river is very lazy and has one bar. It’s hard to get a pool chair but we made it work.
The location is not in Cancun, actually one hour away in Costa Mujeres. If you happen to book an excursion- just keep in mind, traveling to get to your location can take an hour and a half. There are no bars, restaurants within walking distance of the resort. There is so much on the resort you can take advantage of, so I didn’t mind the location.
We did book an excursion with Extreme Adventuring Cancun. We did ATVs, zipline, and swimming in a cenote… just the ride there was one hour and half and the ride back was one hour and a half so we lost a pool day and that made us sad lol.
Some of our group did take Ubers to Cancun one night to party… I don’t recommend it… it was a struggle getting back because Uber can’t pick up near popular night clubs, so we had to walk maybe 10 minutes to get a ride back. The ride was 40 minutes there and 40 minutes back.
This is the best all inclusive that I’ve stayed at and I would definitely stay here again.

Read moreWould like to give a better rating but you feel like a piece of “wallet meat” in this place. Never ending notifications on app, emails, WhatsApp messages and solicitations, face to face even when picking up a towel at the pool, to buy, buy, buy! You know when you are at the beach and endless vendors come by hassling you to buy something. Same thing here. Just does not stop. We had stayed at a different resort just prior to this. There were approaches to buy things but one ask and the person would leave it alone.
This resort looks really nice. It’s fairly new. Gardens and architecture. Innovative. Pretty awesome outdoor theatre that was jamming pretty hard with a DJ at night. Opened in 2021. But the check in process was agonizing! They had to write things on paper multiple times. Asked for information they had, repeatedly. I had booked the stay with points in Bonvoy app so in doing so it worked out for three nights, that I had to book three separate reservations. We asked front desk to assimilate, which I have done in other Marriott properties, when multiple nights consecutively were booked. And there was one check in and the last day, one check out. Not here. Everyday, our wrist band key would need to be reset. Log back in for wifi and you get booted off system at 9 am each day. But literally it took 30 MINUTES to check in. There was a very long line up. Each person doing the process was the same. Literally 1 star for this. As you know first impressions are hard to change. Once you get the initial experience very difficult to come back from there. Many restaurants. We didn’t get to all of them. But Braza was great. Open for three services a day. The people providing service waiters and chefs/cooks are wonderful. All really genuinely trying to provide positive experiences. Guy Fiori’s burgers were precooked and cold. A pass. We only had lunch in buffet one time and there was many, many options. I mean MANY! Loads of different stations offering various culinary cultural oriented foods. Pools for adults is nice. There is not a quiet pool anywhere that I could see. There is an adult side and that’s where we stayed. Music and or DJ type of thing. Not my favourite but lots of people do enjoy the loud music, activity stimulation. Lazy river is wild with waterslides dropping kids literally on top of you when floating along. I prefer loaf mode lol.
Went to the EAST SUSHI & TEPPANYAKI BAR which usually is kinda fun. Depending on the other guests. Food was average. Same applies here.
Sunset Strip Steakhouse & Grill was good service and food quality also average to above average.
The cinema is pretty cool. There was a really large guy with his wife sitting behind us who was friendly. Pretty hammered as well! And the friendly chatting just kinda never stopped. Throughout the whole movie. Nor did his belching and muttering and laughter. lol. He had a grand ol’ time. And we all had a running commentary. No security. Rewatched Deadpool & Wolverine on the flight home when I could actually hear all of it.
Overall, decent three night stay. Bed comfortable. The AC shuts down after 20-30 seconds of doors being open which is a really good idea. Rooms are cool and trendy looking. But be prepared for selling messages tv.
The app is not that great and the map offered on the app just about a hair above totally useless. You can make reservations and book spa appointments easily. Again the endless notifications just slamming you with specials and sales and so on really grinds on you after a while. Not to mention WhatsApp and then emails that I am still getting after being checked out for 4 days lol! Saying welcome to the resort and to come and visit the concierge for our free gift (conditions apply) lol! To hear the presentation for Prime Vacation Club or to book such and such excursion for an extortionately high price. We did go to spa which was really good. But super expensive. We’re Canadian and with exchange it gets up there for value for money. Slept dam good after the treatments though! Be prepared to be...
