I was attracted by the history of the hotel, its location, and its modest pricing. It was great in all of these, especially the view/sounds from our balcony which was about 100 feet from the Pacific Ocean and the malecon. We could watch some of the nightlife of Mazatlan from our hotel. The room was very large, had a nicely tiled floor, and the largest bed I've ever been in (and comfortable enough).I would stay there again.||On the other hand, there were some deficiencies: an uncovered electrical outlet, a bathroom door handle of rusted metal, no reading lamp (a glaring overhead bulb), and, for those who are particular, there was no water for almost one full day. It did not seem to be an extraordinary occurrence, by the response from staff. It was nice when the cleaning lady (so very friendly and nice, kudos to all of them!) brought us a bucket of water to flush the toilet in the afternoon. There is drinking water available from dispensers in the halls. Warning: take care in getting on and off the elevator as it does not stop level. The pool was nice for a short swim; the Pacific waves are a bit fearsome. If you have been in the Peace Corps, the pros outweigh the cons by a lot. I would give it a 4, but would not wish to mislead. It might be a challenge for those with small children and the fussy. And the noise from the street activities and even the omnipresent loud waves can be disruptive to sleep, so bring ear plugs---they really help. Also no a/c but it was not that hot; there is a ceiling fan, don't know...
Read moreThis hotel is depressing, there is not one positive thing about the actual hotel. It's dirty, bug infested and the beds are extremely uncomfortable. I don't know why they have staff there because the only thing I saw them do was sit around and scroll through their phones. I stayed in a long term room, I was there for a month and my room was only cleaned twice. They don't want to give you towels or toilet paper and the wifi is a joke. Also i was told you're not allowed to have any outside guests in your room after 10pm. There is also barely any light when you have to go up and down the stairs (I had to use the light from my phone) and I didn't feel safe. If I could give this place negative stars I would, this was by far the worst experience I've EVER had at a hotel. If you can help it,...
Read moreI used to stay at Hotel Belmar. Sure the doors to the rooms are literally so worn that you can see through them. The AC barely kept the room from being hot. The tv had a $5 antenna dangling from it. (You could get about 3 Spanish channels) A chair in the room was so worn and old that I didn't want to touch it. Everything was in bad condition.||||There is of course the view and location which made the above forgivable and sometimes fun. That was until they raised their price to $73 per night. ||||If they charged a fair price, which would be about $35 at the most per night, the place would still have its charm. You are better off going to Hotel La Siesta for $50 which is in the same great location, has a great view of the ocean, and everything is much...
