My experience at this hotel was unusually frustrating. I booked it on the strength of recommendations by both my somewhat old travel books, yet the hotel turned out to be in a state of serious decay and lack of proper maintenance. Here are some examples: the desk person greeted me with a stolid face and overt annoyance at the fact that I showed up alone even though my booking was for two persons. My timid explanation that it was a mistake during my internet booking did not seem to mollify him, instead he insisted on punishing me with the news that he would have to charge me for two persons instead of a single one: fine, go ahead! Next, the elevator got often stuck and would refuse to move on; the room was very small, cheaply furnished and in immediate need for at least a coat of paint, as the walls were dirty; the wiring in the room was such that the TV set and my computer could not be plugged in at the same time; the bathroom faucet leaked water all over the countertop when in use; the bedsheets were seriously worn out, grey-coloured and with a few holes in them (in other words, Salvation Army quality); the internet connection was unreliable; the heating did not work (Xalapa is cold in winter time); the TV set was extremely old and the reception poor; throughout my stay the desk personnel was at best aloof and unhelpful, and at worst outright hostile. The best thing going for the hotel turned out to be the room maintenance personnel, which tried very hard to fix the fixable, and the service supervisor who, in recognition of all the problems I had suffered in my regular room, moved me to the executive suite the last night of my stay. It was the service personnel who at last quietly informed me that the hotel has not been properly kept up for a while because the current owners are no longer interested and are looking to sell the property. Until they do, my advice is to skip this hotel and to look instead for a room at Hotel Meson del Alferez, only a few steps away. That would have been my choice to begin with (my experience with the twin Alferez in Coatepec had been excellent), but unfortunately it was full when I...
Read moreNormally i dont write reviews once i left the place, but in my first day i feel so happy that i think they deserve it.||||This hotel is perfectly located in the city centre, is clean, spacious. Rooms are roomy and clean.||||The best thing is their front desk. is like they have the answers before you make the question. they are profesinals and kind. I asked couple of things and never heard a NO as answer likely many hotels in mexico. They even give the answer to your request and offer themselves to help. Awesome.||||Took room 514 is facing the street. as in front is the City municipality, there is not much view. Would recoment to take behind rooms as they have view to the mountains an low city villages.||||Definetly a good choice. will try amenities and food and will...
