A functional stay in the heart of Essaouira. We visited Casa del Mar part-way through a bikepacking trip from Agadir to Marrakesh and back via this coastal city. The staff were more than happy for us to store the bikes upstairs in our room, which was excellent. The room itself was large enough & had two good sized beds, given it’s description as a ‘triple’. It had a small mezzanine level with a 4ft mattress on, which was perfectly comfortable. The bathroom was clean and functional, with a powerful, hot shower. Breakfast was good, with fresh juice, mint tea and a range of traditional baked items. The location is great if you want to explore the hustle and bustle of the city’s narrow streets, maybe not so great if you are after something a little quieter or have a rental vehicle. Inside does a good job of blocking out the noise from outside, but sound travels within the property’s numerous floors quite easily & we were woken up in the night by music a couple of times. The terrace area on top is also a nice addition. However, it’s a shame that the lights don’t appear to work, so you can’t sit up there in the evenings after dark as we’d hoped to.

We really enjoy this place. We stayed in one of the rooms on the top level. Pros: Tons of light and you can hear the sounds of the ocean. Staff is amazing. Friendly, helpful, sincere. Breakfast was homemade on site everyday. We were able to take it on the top terrace as well. Rooms made daily. Cons: There is zero privacy. Your windows are always open to manage the heat, so your one neighbour can see clearly in. The bathroom has no closed door or wall. Just be sure you're either traveling alone, or the person with you is ok with seeing/hearing the real you. No toiletries: shampoo, bodywash. There was a small bar of soap but it wasn't enough. The room we had had a strong smell of septic. The pipe in the shower was the cause. We covered it and that helped.

Perfectly located just by the sea and few minutes from anywhere in Medina. Spacious bed and the whole room, very friendly staff and good service. And the view from the terrace is simply spectacular. Highly recommended!

Stayed in this Riad last October and really enjoyed my experience. My room was GORGEOUS (one floor from the top, view of the other side of the alley only sadly but still super light and airy due to the central staircase open sky roof). If you are anxious about security you might not love it (windows and door open right onto the stairwell and the locks are flimbsy/windows don't really lock). However provided you're not worried about other guests stealing your things (I wasn't) it's fine. The main door downstairs is very secure and there is always someone around looking on as you come and go. Actually I struggled a bit with the key, there's a knack to the front door!||||The riad itself is very beautiful, very clean, and very bright. The roof terrace is stunning, looking right onto the sea and feels very peaceful despite being located right by the medina. You might struggle to find it (the signage isn't amazing) however the local neighbours know it well and will point you in the right direction if you just ask. Essaouira isn't like Marrakech, they will actually send you the right way!||||My only slight complaint is about the breakfast - it was pretty spartan. I stayed in two other accommodations during my trip to Morocco, one Riad and a hostel, and both has far superior breakfasts to La Casa del Mar. Breakfast is served on the roof and there occasionally isn't enough seating, depending when everyone shows up. Even when there is, you might end up in one of the seats in the shade, which is actually pretty cold first thing in the morning! There was a large family staying when I was there and they took over the place a bit so breakfast wasn't the peaceful affair it can be in other Riads, but as long as you're not hoping to sit for an hour relaxing with a book like me you probably wont care.||||Otherwise I loved my stay here, if I did it again I would spend much longer in Essaouira and stay in La Casa del Mar again for sure. Staff are friendly, helpful but don't bother you if you aren't feeling talkative. The building is gorgeous, although not appropriate for those with mobility issues, and the roof terrace is...
