The renovated room on the top floor appeared very bright with new carpets etc. Intesting choice of colour of chairs - bright yellow, how long will that stay unstained. The shower door would not shut as the seal on the bottom of door was coming off, there was a visible inspection panel under the sink which had come away from the wall and the lever to lcok the door falls out into you hand. Rather disappointing these snaggings have not been dealt with. The hotel was still under refurbishment and you required to enter through a different door which was not a problem. My wife and I stayed 3 nights. On the first night having spent most of the day travelling we thought we would eat in the hotel. We were advised there was a buffet dinner. There was limited choice and was inexpensive. Would rather have paid a bit more for better food. Breakfast was poor. There was meant to be scrambled egg but every day it was either finished or there were a few cold scraps left in the dish. There was very little choice of cold meats or cheese. Was some bread, croissants etc. and a toaster. Coffee machine was available. There was little acknowledgment from the few staff who appeared from time to time. We used the bar each day. On the first day they ran out of gin pre dinner and we were advised more would there after dinner. It did not appear that night, nor the next night. On our final night they had managed to locate a bottle of gin. I have an Accor ALL silver loyalty card which entitles me to two free drinks at an Accor hotel. On enquiring about this I was advised that it only allowed me beer, lemonade or soda. My wife does not drink beer. On speaking to the manager I was advised that Mercure 3 star hotels only provide beer or soft drinks. Not correct. We have been in other Mercure 3 star hotels where we had choices of beer, wine etc. I was not expecting champagne but surely a glass of wine is not over the top? It is for this Mercure Hotel. They do not sell glasses of wine. You can get a bottle or half bottle of wine. I had thought the loyalty card was to reward loyalty and encourage you to return. Obviously not. If you are looking for a cheap hotel this may be fine. Would we...
Read moreI have never reviewed a hotel before actually sleeping overnight but I’m so angry I can’t sleep. Hotel is clean however only 2 bath towels. No hand towels or face cloths. This is an ACCOR hotel branded Mercure. Definitely below the branding standards in Paris and Europe . Worse part was the bartender in the hotel bar. Wouldn’t allow us to pay with credit card. Cash only. We ordered 2 Casablanca beers then found out we can order a bucket of beers 5 for the price of 4 beers. Another guest at the bar ordered for us. Bartender charged us for a total of 7 beers no discount. When the bar guest queried about the difference in pricing he said hotel guests don’t get the discounted offer. Essentially if you are stupid enough to stay in this hotel you pay a premium. It’s not the 38 Dirhams. It’s the principle. We paid him 300 dirhams cash and he said no change. Who cares it’s 20 dirhams in change. We would have tipped him 20% because we are North Americans. Instead the bartender decided to scam us for a total of 58 dirhams that really pissed me off. Again it’s the principle at hand Not sure if it’s racial discrimination or a gender issue but we would never recommend this hotel to anyone. I’m sure this is not an ACCOR corporate policy to rip off guests but if definitely left a HORRIBLE impression of ACCOR/Mercure hotels. Very disappointing. Brought up the issue with the front desk… no resolution. Why can’t they charge my credit card and give back the 300 dirham. We didn’t convert a lot of USD to dirham because we had no plans to shop a lot in the souk. Now I have to convert more USD because of the bartender’s scam||to pocket the pricing difference. I guess it adds up if you scam...
