Due to the lack of other choices (seems like Jan is high tourist season!), a few of us stayed here for a total of 6 nights. ||||The building and furnishing is old, but cleanliness wasn't compromised. Rooms are good sized, with wardrobe and coffee table, dressing table and relatively large bathrooms. ||||NOTE: we were there over a full moon period, so the chanting from the temples (which are literally everywhere in Mandaly!) continues for 5 days straight. 24 hours. If you are a light sleeper, make||sure you get a room facing the main road. ||||Breakfast is on the rooftop, nice to be outdoors and food variety is acceptable. There is a restaurant downstairs which serves local food at very affordable prices. Not terribly clean, but we survived!||||Service is generally good, most of the employees can understand basic English.||||There seems to be other newer shophouse hotels available, just maybe they're not easily found online. Read moreA really terrible experience. Perhaps if this hotel had a multi-million dollar renovation it might be okay, but as it stands the rooms are dark and dirty. The bathroom was the worst I'd ever seen in all of my many travels. Stomach turning. Even with all the dim lights on in the room it was impossible to read, it was so dark. One of the drinking glasses in the room was stuck to the table--sticky on the bottom. I hate to think about it. I don't know about the other hotels in Mandalay. I'm assuming there are better choices. But the Ya Htaik Hotel is definitely a terrible...
