I stayed at 3Monkeys Backpacker's Hostel for five nights in October '22.
The atmosphere was perfect for meeting new travellers, sitting down with a beer, or just hanging out by yourself on the rooftop with a cup of tea.
The balcony was a highlight of my stay. Socialised with more people there than I had imagined from other reviews.
The staff are extremely friendly and polite, and can adapt/improvise to a very high standard of demands if the need arises. I was told that I may wake them up in the middle of the night if I wanted an errand to be run, which was touching considering it's a backpacker's hostel with such affordable accommodation plans.
The price to benefit ratio was the best I found among dozens of other hostels in the Kathmandu area.
It's located in a peaceuful residential area right off the Ring Road in Swoyambhu, well connected to the rest of the city by buses and shuttle Toyota Hi-Aces.
The price was inclusive of a decent WiFi, a moderate breakfast, and a running hot shower (which is tricky to use at first but very efficient once you get the hang of it).
No qualms about cleanliness either, all toilets, washrooms, hallways, and common spaces were meticulously broomed and mopped every single day.
Worth giving it a try. I found it much more relaxing than the...
Read moreThese guys were awesome, they really treat you like family! We stayed there in early November 2022. They are so flexible in terms of changing things and really go the extra mile for you. For instance, they let us keep our extra luggage there for 12 days while we did the Everest Base Camp. We also came back from Pokhara at 4am one day and one of their staff was happy to welcome us and give us a bed to sleep on until the morning, no charge! One night they were fully booked but offered to set up tents on the roof for us if we needed a place to stay!
Apart from that, generally the vibes were excellent, and the food was very cheap and tasty, made by their staff! They also had a free filtered water service The rooms were pretty basic and functional, and the bathrooms were pretty good for a hostel, although the showers were not great, and you'd be lucky to get hot water in the early mornings and late evenings (i believe it may be solar heated). Anyway, I loved these guys and have never felt so welcomed by an accommodation, I'll be coming...
Read moreI stayed here for over a month, which wasn't planned, but the atmosphere of this place and swayambhu made me want to extend my stay. This place is a better alternative than the tourist district of thamel, especially if you're looking for a quiet place to rest after a long day. You'll see dozens of monkeys every day as they live right next to it! Thanks again to Pawang for his hospitality and for inviting us into his family to attend both, the Dasai and Tihar festivals. Thanks to this invitation I was able to see how these family festivities were celebrated, and we even took part with a few others from the hostel in the tikka ceremony! I'm so grateful! I'll definitely be back when I get back to Nepal! And thanks again Pawang for lending me some mountain gear for the langtang trek ( and Joe too...
