Long review in a few words: I would pass, it gives dorm vibes
Liked · I was reserving a bit last minute due to the change of plans and most hotels were already fully reserved, so I settled for this one, it was available. The view of the park from the room and the breakfast area was nice. It was also quiet. The water in the shower has good pressure and temperature. Plenty of electric plugs.
Disliked · It gives a feeling of a seventies UK student dorm (I lived in one, so I know, sorry), fairly dated and the room provides only the basics without any pretense to be nice, honestly. A mix of 70/80 built-in and IKEA basic furniture. The walls have clear signs of water damage. Access is very inaccessible even for me in my 20s, for elderly or disabled people at least our room would not be accessible due to extremely steep staircases. Also does not give exceptionally clean vibes (the floor is fully carpeted, washed stains on the bed sheets, and dirt behind the TV). The bed was a twin with two VERY thin beds. I did not have a nightstand (on one side only). The ventilator in the bathroom is noisy and the lighting is incredibly low. The bathroom is tiny. The place has a history by the looks of it, but it's not a memorable experience. For 177 per night with two very passable breakfasts (155 for the room for the night), I would not wish to recommend it unless, like myself, in the necessity of accommodation without many...
Read moreIt's an OK place but would not be my first choice if I ever return here. Very interesting building, a small maze inside it with different levels and multiple entries and staircases. Speaking of, since there is no elevator, and the stairs are so steep, carrying a big bag is quite annoying
Rooms are OK in size, locked by traditional key, not electronic key card. There is no "do not disturb" sign to put on the door, so housekeeping comes in every day. I don't see the actual reason for that. On my first day the only thing they did was to make the bed and take my bath towel... Yes, take, not replace. Apparently they forgot to put in a new one. The rule of "towel on rack vs towel on the ground" does not work here. They take them off the rack also. But besides that, they didn't do much. Trash was not emptied, and the layer of dust near the TV was still there...
Wi-Fi is really bad. At first it didn't work at all, I went around the whole hotel trying to find one connection that works (as there are more than one), but no luck. Eventually it started working, but...
Read moreI rate positively for the price-quality ratio. If I can suggest anything about the rooms, I would definitely take care of the upholstery of the furniture. Breakfast was decent as long as you don't need a great selection of cold cuts. Grift river view is a bonus. And now my note to all those complaining about the stairs (I posted the photo, people who are not physically fit can face some problems) - the hotel is located in Vittevrouw, a historic part of Utrecht and I think the building has more or less its original design. I have seen stairs in this district (and elsewhere in the Netherlands) that were narrower and steeper. This is...
