Aarangi Tui Motel — Hotel in Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community

I’d hate to see what this place looked like before the new owners but the reviews I read which helped me decide to book a room here are misleading. We stayed in their garage converted into a very disappointing room with kitchenette and shower. Extremely disappointed, it’s 31 degrees today and when we arrived we self checked into our so called room and realised this garage doesn’t even have aircon just a small fan. The shower is at least a foot and a half high dangerous for people who have bad knees or weak leg muscles, there was only a quarter of toilet roll for us to use for 3 days, and the bedding makes me feel like I should have flown over to NZ with my own sheets and pillow cases. If you’re on a budget best to spend your hard earned $ elsewhere. Oh I have to add we had the most uncomfortable sleep last night in this garage they sold us because it was soooo hot we couldn’t open windows due to bugs and we actually found some sort of fan with water to try keep us cool all night. We stayed here for a while to see out our New Zealand visa so got a great long term rate (worth emailing ahead) first impressions weren’t great as the place was pretty dirty and dated. Once we let the owner know however she had it cleaned properly and couldn’t be more accommodating. Any problems we had she would aim to fix immediately, couldn’t speak highly enough of her. ||Small unit had everything you could want I.e. bathroom, kitchenette, tv w/channels etc. Short flat walk into the centre of town. Not much more you could want. ||One negative quirk is a house at the back of the motel that plays very loud music early in the morning or...
