The creamy Pāua pie is worth a trip from Auckland. Their pastry is consistently great. No better way exists for carrying and complimenting their interesting range of fillings. They are generous with their fillings and have exactly the right ratio of gravy to meat. The gravy is always precisely the right viscosity. I’ve only tried three of their wide range, because the bloody pāua pie is so good it’s my go to. Their lamb pie is noteworthy. Perfectly cooked lamb with NO MINT SAUCE to ruin the delicate lamb. Delicious, perfectly seasoned gravy. And wrapped in spot on pastry. Their duck pie was, for me, not their best work. The duck was cooked perfectly but was let down by a sauce that was too sweet.
I have motorcycled all over New Zealand most particularly since 2018. Discovering delicious locally baked pies has become a mission for me.
New Zealand pies have become a bit of an art form. Really great value and, even as a big eater, I find them filling as a meal. All things considered pies are arguably my favourite food. Why none of New Zealand’s great bakeries open for dinner...
Read moreHorrible customer service. Blonde girl stacking sandwiches/running the counter did not at all acknowledge new customers. While waiting to be served we were ignored. A simple "be with you in a few seconds" would be great. Maybe she didn't hear us because she had earphones in. But somehow heard me when I said "excuse me?" to get her attention. Served with an attitude like she had somewhere better to be and when the coffee we ordered was ready just put on counter and walked off, so didn't actually notice it was ready for a bit. She also had fingernails long enough to be one bad butt wipe away from making customers sick. Wouldn't know how the food was as decided to go elsewhere after that. Coffee similar ti any other place with a moody teenager making it. Painfully average for a cafe with minimal front space or advertising considering the large amounts of competition nearby. Won't...
Read moreI love my food and I'm a little fussy 😉I went to this bakery last week with my whanau the food and coffee were impressive, my daughter ordered fries which they cooked up freshly, they were delicious and a very generous portion. Went back again today because of our previous positive experience, and grabbed a couple of slices, a paua pie and coffee... all delicious. The paua pie was soooo good, a nice creamy white sauce with minced paua in it. I saw freshly iced donuts being placed into the cabinets. The lady serving is funny and friendly. The food is freshly cooked, the shop clean, everything we had was good which means we'll definately be visiting again. Great spot to grab a kai, well done...
