Disappointed. We check in and headed straight to the cellar door to do some wine tasting. We noticed some people were already there so we had a quick look at the restaurant for later that evening and then headed back to the cellar. The couple doing tastings were having a conversation with the bar tender. My partner and I walked around the cellar reading information about the wines and the company, trying to get eye contact with the bar tender but nothing, the whole time we were there we did not get acknowledged. Not a hi or I will be with you in a moment or anything. So, we left. I was quite disappointed as this is where we had decided to stay. We ended up going to another winery and had lunch and bought 5 bottles of their wine. The following day we wanted to check out around 8:30am and reception wasn’t opened. We tried to call the number multiple times to ask where we should leave the key but not answer. My partner ended up leaving a message to say this is where we have left the key and then called later in the day to confirm if they had found it with still no answer. We stayed in the garden room right near the cellar the room was cosy but customer service is everything! We could have purchased some wine and food from there and recommended the vineyard to others but without a good experience we are left with a bad taste...
Read moreWe were warmly greeted at reception along with an envelope that contained a welcome letter and handy details. We loved the location of our accomodation A villa within the Gatehouse. It was fab for a couple like us wanting a peaceful overnight stay away in Martinborough. We were in Villa 2 with a view of the garden. We had an outdoor table and chairs on the verandah which we enjoyed sitting at in the evening with a fruit platter and a delicious bottle of Margrain Chardonnay. The room was clean and very tidy with french doors opening onto the verandah. The bathroom was clean light and airy. A pedastool fan had been provided which we used. However, we were fortunate to not have hot late afternoon evening sun streaming in thanks to cloud cover. A lovely continental breakfast of 3 choices of cereals presented in clear jars, fresh milk, 4 slices wholegrain bread, spreads, and orange juice being provided. Wine was chilling in the fridge and a nice red was on the shelf above. We purchased the Margrain Sav. Checkout which is located down the road was completed in a timely manner and even though we checked out just after 10 we appreciated the check out time of 11. THANK-YOU Margrain Villas. We hope to see you again this...
Read moreRooms are a little outdated and oddly designed. There was also a problem in the bathrooms- above the shower was only a wood ceiling with no extractor fan, making for a lovely large display of mould. The light in the mornings is pretty bright too due to the window turrets, waking you up at about 5am. You are neighbouring with another villa and walls are thin also. The “continental breakfast” that was included was extremely basic, it was fine but there’s something about supermarket bread served in gladwrap that isn’t exactly alluring. Other than these things, the linen was clean and the bed was huge and very comfortable. Not too far from Martinborough square, parking for each villa, picturesque...
