Going to Martinborogh from Wellies for our 29th Wedding Anniversary felt like we were abroad on holiday - the sun shone, circadas sung and the town buzzed with people walking or biking around. Colour co-ordinated hen parties were everywhere biking around in high spirits and having the bestest time. Their laughter was infectious. We booked a reservation at Tirohana Estate for dinner and were pleasantly surprised that they had a shuttle service for pickup and drop off. Yippee game on! No need for a sober driver for these old crusties. From arrival to departure we received nothing short of excellent service and a night to remember. 10/10 and I’m a tough marker. What made it special was good old fashioned service extraordinaire and the little touches like a Sauvignon squeeze on arrival followed by a gazpacho as an appetiser which was perfect on such a balmy night. Toby, our maître D was in his element and kept us all entertained and tinker bell ( sorry don’t know name but she had the most spectacular silver glitter in her elegantly coiffured hair ) made a big impression. In fact everyone who interacted with us did and that’s quite an achievement. Chef too made an appearance upon request, answering questions from some of her appreciative diners. All the more special as I believe it is a family run business. Dinner is a fixed menu and extremely good value. Produce is is local and seasonal With plenty of choice for everyone. No pretentious foams here, just proven menu winners expertly prepared and presented . Wine choice was unfortunately limited - the Estate’s Chardonnay or Pinot noir- just as well I like both. My only niggle was my main, the lamb rump was on the fatty side. I still managed to wolf down the lot minus the offending lump of fat but felt I needed to pass this constructive comment on to Toby who was not fazed and most apologetic. We were not charged for it and there was no discussion. Customer impressions in such a competitive tough market are so important. The little extras made a difference including complimentary chocolates to celebrate our anniversary. Tirohana Estate you left a great impression on us and we will be back. Plus we will be recommending to friends. Well done...
Read moreHad a wonderful birthday dinner here for my partner. The gazpacho was top notch, the walnut, strawberry and balsamic salad absolutely the pick of the starters (I got the poached peach with goats cheese and prosciutto and liked it but thought my partner’s salad absolutely took the cake).
The highlight for me - the beef. Seasoned to perfection right through the steak, lovely medium rare, not tough or chewy. And the flavoursome veges and red wine jus topped it off nicely.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the lemon posset - a bit like eating the sauce of a dessert without the rest of the dessert, but perhaps that was just my taste. Again, my partner had the pick of the desserts with the pumpkin bread and butter pudding. Divine!
We left before getting our petit fours, and, a mark of the lovely service, a waiter came chasing after us with them wrapped up in a tinfoil swan for us to take away. A nice touch.
All in all a wonderful evening, in a beautiful setting, with delightful service. But the best of all was the food, as...
Read moreMy husband and I came here for his birthday celebration. Started off with shuttle pick up from the accomodation to Tirohana Estate. When arriving there was welcome drink waiting and the staff were happy to accommodate my allergy to the pineapple in the drink and swapped it to apple. From there we were taken to our table and the lovely staff member went over the menu for the night and answered my queries to what I could have due to my allergies. Each course was delicious, especially the lamb shank with basmati rice. The timing for the courses was great as it gave us time to digest and settle. The staff were very accommodating and knowledgeable especially with drink suggestions to match dessert for my husband. At the end the staff were so kind and brought out chocolates with candle and sang happy birthday to my husband. Highly recommend Tirohana Estate Restaurant and Vineyard. From pick up to drop off, the experience was impeccable. A big thank for a wonderful night to Tirohana...
