Boulcott Lodge — Hotel in North Island

This family friendly lodge was absolutely fantastic. We flew in late to Wellington and they left our keys in a lock box since their front desk closed before we got there. Their front desk was so helpful in providing recommendations and insights into Wellington and New Zealand. We arrived right before Christmas. As Americans, she let us know that, by law, everything would be closed down so we wouldn’t be able to get food anywhere. This helped us a lot and were able to walk to the nearest Pak’n’Save to get food for both Christmas and Boxing Day. Which makes this another great place. Each room is equipped with a small electric stove, microwave and kettle. The rooms are so spacious and the beds are epically comfortable. I also thought that the use of the key to keep the lights and AC on was an interesting way to keep track of the electricity. Overall, this has to be one of the most friendly, down to earth, places I have ever stayed. Needless to say, the next time I’m in Wellington…I will definitely be staying here again. Rooms are nice, and conditioned but staff are quite rude. Staff are very condescending towards us. Probably could spruce up their manners and customer service. After demanding we make sure to arrive early to get our key so staff could close early there was the tour of the room. Throughout the tour being told not to cook on the stove/oven or even use the toaster provided as the fire alarm would be set off and they wanted this avoided. (Should change what you say is available on your website) Fair enough but you should have said prior to me bringing food to cook because you say these amenities are available! Also requested throughout the tour for us to take all rubbish with us is ridiculous. Then saying smoking is permitted outdoors in the carpark which was fine until the next morning when the same staff member came out and said "I make the rules and you cannot smoke here, go down the road to the bus stop". What does the price cover other than the unwelcoming service? Please use the money paid to you on learning...

This motel is a cut above so many others in the Wellington area. Not only is it exceptionally clean, with all the amenities you would expect and good car parking, but it also offers something rare — the outstanding hospitality of Felicity and Tim. They are truly exceptional hosts. From the very first interaction when booking our stay, they were warm, welcoming, and incredibly accommodating. During our visit, their graciousness and genuine care made all the difference, creating an atmosphere that felt more like visiting friends than staying at a motel.||Boulcott Lodge also benefits from a fantastic location, close to the shops, cafés, and shopping mall of Lower Hutt, with easy access into Wellington itself.||As regular visitors to Wellington who have tried many motels and apartments, we can confidently say we have now found the place we will return to without hesitation.
