Liberty Apartment Hotel — Hotel in North Island

I stayed here for 5 nights and although the rooms themselves are fine with reasonable size and amenities, I cannot stay here again. On one of the nights, 50+ party goers packed into one room, and from 2am to 10:30am, they partied. The walls were vibrating with the heavy music and people shouted all night as they partied in the room next door. They also shouted up and down the corridor, and we were scared for our safety leaving the room. I tried ringing the number and I woke the person who answered and we mentioned the 50 people next door partying, but he could not do anything about it. We rang 3-4 times about this and did not get a wink of sleep.

When reception opened the next morning, I went downstairs and the receptionist was already there and he was surprised that the party was still going. I am surprised he did not go and check in on the room and kick them out when he arrived for work. At 10:30am, they finally left, all 50 of them as the filed out of the room.

I guess this is an issue with anywhere that is not 24 hour reception but were we, as customers, meant to ring the police and meet the police ?

Note I was given a refund that night but it was not worth the stress and the way I felt the day after...

GOOD: Loved the contemporary design. Everything was clean and tidy. The bathroom was wonderfully spacious. They offered tea and coffee, had an oven and washer/dryer, big fridge/freezer and microwave. We were able to make our own dinners and breakfasts, which helped keep costs down. Bed was comfortable. Great location. The staff were wonderfully accommodating and gave the best customer service. There is also free WiFi. Very good value for the price.

NOT GOOD: I could hear EVERYTHING. I could hear the upstairs guests walking/banging around at 3am, and being woken up at 5:30am by gurgling water pipes and flushing toilets meant the quality of my stay was diminished. Some guests didn't respect the 'quiet after 9pm' rule so I could hear them talking/clomping in the hallway late at night. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're a light sleeper.

Also, they supply body wash but there was no shampoo or conditioner. If I'd known in advance, I would have...

We booked 2 apartments for our stay. We arrived to find our key cards weren’t left in the after hours check in box. When I called the number for after hour service it went through to voicemail and I left a message. After waiting for half an hour or so another customer came to collect her card also and we were all left standing outside in the cold. She managed to finally talk to someone and they came and let us into our rooms - two of our cards (for each apartment) didn’t work and because we had early kaupapa on in the morning we couldn’t sort the key cards out (no-one in reception until 9am). The couches were stained and the furniture was tired. The location is exceptional, just walking distances to bus stops, shopping, Te Papa etc. the final kick in the guts though was that the hotel had charged my credit card after I called last week to say we were paying prior to our arrival. ...
