Just awful Music was fine But the seats must be the worst I have ever tried to sit in.
My husband spent his whole time trying to balance on the seat. I had other people asking me if he was ok. I got as comfy as I could and had a wee nap, while holding him to the seat.
The gods are historically a place to sit for people who cannot afford to go to the theatre. As a kid I remeber my parents excitedly bought us tickets to see shows. When the tickets are affordable, even cheap, the current seating in the gods would be almost bearable. It was better when it at least was awful but still had the leather smell and the creepy old feel. Now, pay $69 and only stay cos you paid that amount.... hmmmm
Last night sitting in the gods, desperately trying to enjoy the show, we felt we put three hundred percent more effort in than any of the musicians.
I was horrified to learn we paid the same as people in the circle for these brutally challenging seats.
I find this shameful in some way. Maybe take that thought and ruminate on it...
Read moreBeen there last night to watch a Ballet performance. Unfortunately our floor seats were not at the center of our row, and we spent a good chunk of the show staring at the empty stage while the dancers were prancing in the back. The stage is deep and narrow, and its back end is visible only from center seats. Perhaps this is a non-issue in concerts where the action is limited to front stage, but it is guaranteed to ruin any performance which takes the full stage. We had a poor experience last night, a waste of time and money. Bottom line: If you want to see the show don't buy anything but dead center seats at this historic venue. I prepared a little diagram marking which areas of the floor don't have a proper view, and should be avoided unless you plan on napping through the show. For that I recommend our seats (see the red star) with 5 star rating and a...
Read moreLiked the old style building. But up in the dress circle it was very uncomfortably hot and stuffy. Could not wait for the interval. I asked my husband how he was going. He's an asthmatic and even though he'd taken his medication he was having trouble breathing. I said we didn't have to stay for the 2nd half so left! This was on a cool night watching Chicago. Waste of tickets, waste of hotel accommodation and kennel accommodation for our dogs. Surely something should be done to improve air flow. Maybe airconditoning? Not good enough for a Capital City. Sounds like St James is the same. After living in Sydney for many years and seeing many shows at many venues never has this happened. We have never walked out in the middle of a show. Such a huge...
