Motel 22 — Hotel in North Island

The guy at the desk was very helpful but his English just wasn't the best! There was a small dog on a chain attached to a kennel just outside the office - it appeared friendly but tried to nip at my leg as I passed and would yap quite a bit albeit sporadically. The room looked nice at first glance and the layout was good and there was even an oven in the wee kitchen but the net curtains had black mould along the bottom, there was fly droppings on the bathroom window frame, the tap fittings were old and dripped incessantly. the pillows were very uncomfortable and old and the toilet didn't flush efficiently, with water often continuing to flow into the bowl for a long time or until you flushed it again! I have to say though that the shower was wonderful and I stood under it for a long time trying to ease my sore neck after sleeping on those awful pillows I mentioned! We hadn't thought to check how many sky channels were available before booking and upon arrival we were incredibly annoyed to find they only supplied six sky channels - even that wouldn't have been too bad except for the fact that 3 of them were sports channels, there were 2 movie channels that kept repeating the same rubbish movies over and over and to round it off, there was the discovery channel; no UK TV, no comedy channel, no History channel etc and to add salt to the wound the TV reception on these very limited sky channels was very bad! I will not be staying at this...

I came to this motel through work. They had previously booked me a motel in Porirua, which turned out to be a disaster. Reading some [only some] of the reviews of this motel, I was expecting similar.||However, apart from a glitch on arrival [power cut, so receptionist could not see that my company had already arranged to pay the bill], the ground floor room was spacious, well decorated, and with modern decor. Although the kitchen units were older, they were well maintained and clean. The bathroom had a separate toilet and there would have been plenty of room for 3 or even four guests.||The area is quiet, but handy for the motorway to Wellington. The kitchen has two ring stove, and microwave. The unit is a little short on power points - or they are not in the most convenient place, but this is a minor complaint.||As previously commented, the receptionist [?owner] has poor English but this was not a problem.||The unlimited [reasonable use] internet...

We accidentally pulled into this motel 200 meters before the one we had booked online. The owner pretended to find our booking, took our money & led us to a filthy room. There were some dodgy looking permanent residents watching everything we did & a couple of kids attatched to them that wanted to know all about what we had in our van and enclosed trailer. Upon returning to the van l discovered the motel owner peering through the back window to see what we were carrying. After 15 minutes on site we realized our mistake & requested a refund. We were offered less than half our money back and thought that was a great deal compared to the alternative of actually staying there, sleeping in a grotty room & having our stuff messed around with, so...
