I stayed at Stratford Holiday Park with a large group of backpackers in July for one night. Thank goodness it was for only one night. Unfortunately that night, there was a storm that knocked the power out. The power was off from 6pm until the morning. The holiday park staff came over to our building and told us the power would be on in approximately a half hour and provided us with some 7 hour burning candles for lights. At this point, half of the group had not be able to eat as there was no power. As the hours past, there was no sign of the power nor the holiday park staff. That night, the temperature was below 0 degrees and our building was freezing, forcing us to sleep in our winter jackets and long pants. The holiday park did not provide us with any additional blankets, aside from the sheet on the beds. In the morning, we discovered that only HALF of the holiday park did not have power. The staff failed to mention how there was a working kitchen on the other side of the park - by morning, half of the group did not have dinner or breakfast. There were also hot working showers in the other building, but the owner and staff again did not offer us any further amenities. In the morning, we asked for compensation for the horrible night that we endured, but none was given. The owner refused to give us even HALF of our money back. I understand that natural occurrences such as a power outages happen. But if you run a facility such as this, you should have a back up generator, or additional blankets for every bed that they provide. The staff was rude and did not provide our group with any sympathy. I do not recommend this location to anyone. The facility might be pretty good, however the staff is horrible. If I could, I would give...

What a great small campground!!! This was our second stay. This time we booked the Kitchenette Plus which was perfect for us. We love the communal showers. The water pressure is awesome! Better than what we have in our rental at home. The toilet was close by our unit. It has a heat pool, a spa ( but ai forgot my togs, darn it) & playground. A great communal kitchen & lounge. We really liked how quiet the campground was. We opened the door to the sound of the stream that runs behind the campground. For us the was very peaceful. The staff are awesome!!! So friendly & helpful. You only have to ask. What I can suggest is that you really read about what you have booked. Don't just see the cheaper price & book without reading what you get for that price. We made sure we read the description of what we were getting for the room several times. We had a wee heater that kept the room toasty & warm. It was a treat to wake to fog in the mornings. Especially before daylight. Thankfully the mountain showed itself on most of the days we stayed in Stratford.( You can't see the mountain from the camp ground but you can from when your in or going out either side of Stratford). There is a new Woolworths at the north end of town & plenty of places to choose from to eat out. There is a four square also & the Hospice Op shop is worth a look in, in Stratford too. Pet friendly all your round. For us it was a half way point between Hāwera & New Plymouth, with access to driving the surf highway too. We will definitely be back to stay again. I can say that I definitely highly recommend...

This is my new number one spot to stay the next time i'm in Stratford. Right from the start, the whole process of booking a non powered site for my little tent for a few days was made so easy dealing with Cathie over the phone and then via email to confirm my booking. As this was the same weekend as one of the biggest Motorsport events at Stratford Speedway, the entire campground was close to being completely booked out. But Cathie managed to find me a spot and i was over the moon that they were able to accommodate me at short notice. The grounds are immaculate and the facilities are well maintained and cleaned daily by Cathie and Michelle. These women are super humans and they're the nicest and politest people i have ever met. They go above and beyond to make your stay the best it could ever be. They deserve a well earned break for the amazing hard work they do keeping the place spotless and a great place to stay. Ps If it was physically possible, i would have liked to take their showers home with me lol. The water pressure is amazing and has constant hot water. Thanks again Michelle for all that you did and for the chairs. It was a pleasure to meet you and your staff. Will without a doubt be back the next time i'm...

Really great campground and friendly staff. Katie was fantastic offering us local recommendations and made our stay more enjoyable! We booked a powered site for two weeks and it’s a great location to base yourself while exploring Taranaki. Camp facilities were good: place was cleaned thoroughly daily; kitchen is stocked with the basic essentials; bathrooms had ample units and large shower stalls; and laundry on site including a covered clothes line. We particularly liked the large site, concrete pad and tall hedges offering privacy. Oh and the pool was a nice perk! Also loved the walking trail right behind the campground, a more scenic route to walk in to town and ample other tracks to stretch your legs.

Very nice Holiday Park with clean facilities and a well equipped kitchen. The staff is very friendly and the prices are reasonable. We paid $50NZ for a big powered site per night for two people. We also had a room for one night which was $75NZ. It had a bed a table with chairs and a sink and was close to the kitchen. Overall the rooms just get a 3 star rating because bedding is an extra $10NZ a night and the neighbors water faucet was very loud when they used it at night. It is in a nice location close to a park and the next supermarket is just a 10 minute walk away. All in all I can definitely recommend staying in this Holiday Park if you are in the area.
