Did a mad delivery dash to New Plymouth and back. Was feeling really pecking by the time I got to Normanby but continued on to Stratford for something to eat. Cruised past the multinational on the left and spotted the Baking Co., sign round the roundabout. Parking was at a premium outside the Cafe but there is loads on both sides of the street and also round the corner towards the council buildings. Oh, and more than likely the main street. It looks quite small from the outside but once inside there is loads of seating and room. There's a selection of freshly baked bread and then a huge selection of savory options and sandwiches. Plus sweet treats too. I was served straight away by one of the friendly staff who quickly asked what flavored sausage roll I'd like as there is a choice of three. Wow. Pork and apple sounded appealing but I chose the traditional Kiwi sausage roll, a slice of lolly cake and a hot chocolate to go. I should have taken a seat and savored this meaty morsel but I was wanting to get on the road. It would have to be one of the best, if not the best sausage rolls I have ever eaten. It was huge too and not greasy. Packed with meat and just the right amount of onion and seasoning. Mmmmmm yum. The chunky theme continued with the lolly cake. It was sizeable without being outrageous. Although who would complain. The hot chocolate was hot but was manageable by the time I was through Eltham. And down right delicious going through Patea. Thanks guys really appreciated the fast service and delicious food. Like Arnie says...

I'm a regular at the Baking Co mainly due to the awsum friendly staff & great coffee! But after today, I'm not sure if it'll be my Stratty go-to in the weekend anymore. The amazing Darci welcomed & served me. We chatted for a few minutes when she wasn't busy, as we always do & I welcomed it. But the kitchen lady, who is apparently the boss, told her to stop being lazy & useless & to stop talking to me... Wow?! Unbelievable! Darci, along with all the other staff, are nothing but hardworking & professional, even when short-staffed & busy as, whenever I'm there & only stop to talk to me when they're not busy. This is not how you treat staff, nor customers, especially regulars. I will be reconsidering where I get my...

Off the main road opposite Z station is probably best bakery in Stratford Please remember this is not a cafe however you can be seated and served but no trimmings. There is also seating outside on footpath Staff are friendly and alert Recommend the pork and fennel sausage roll the smell of fennel was appetising. Chocolate chip cookie had only one chip and was dry and crumbled at first bite. Would be better baked smaller. Coffee is from New Plymouth Proof and Stock and is really good.Served with a complimentary biscotti a nice touch. Fries generous portion and crispy but aioli sauce tad bland. Good assortment cabinet food and freshly...

Stopped off at The Baking Company, Stratford, on the way thru to New Plymouth. Was disappointed to see the sign saying 'Kitchen Closed', but was delighted to see the huge array of cabinet kai. I had the Pork, Apple & Fennel sausage roll, and it was delicious. I also got a kāwhe, cappuccino with chocolate and a mango Smoothie. The place was packed, and there was a ka pai vibe going on. Service was excellent, kai & kāwhe arrived promptly and with a lovely smile. It's definitely worth visiting, and I hope to try out their menu another time.
