Tatahi Lodge Beach Resort, Hahei — Hotel in North Island

We loved our stay at Tatahi Lodge and would definitely stay again in future if we’re in the area. We had a super friendly welcome from Fran and Jimmy at reception on arrival who also shared their local knowledge on places to visit/things to do in the area. We were staying in the backpackers part of the accommodation and it’s one of the nicest hostels we’ve stayed at while travelling around New Zealand. The whole place was very clean and well looked after, our 6 bed dorm was spacious with comfy mattresses and solid wood beds that don’t creak and move every time someone moves, bathrooms were clean with nice powerful showers, and we loved the open plan kitchen/dining/living area which was great for socialising in. Free wifi is always a welcome bonus too. Location is perfect, right next door to a pub and 30 seconds from a few cafes and shop, as well as a few minutes walk from Hahei beach, an hours walk from Cathedral Cove and 10 minutes drive from Hot...

Pros: rooms were good power near every lower bed equiped kitchen 3 refrigirators very close to cathedral cove nice sitting area

cons: backpackers dont get wifi for free. At the receltion they told a couple before us that if they run out just go and take more vouchers, while we had to pay 2$ for each 250MB or 5$ for each 1GB voucher. The backpackers are requested to move their car because the parkibg lot is reserved for people in the lodges. Parking is 50 meters away, in a parking lot also used for amother acommodation place, the local cafe, the local genral store and a local restaurant. out of 6 cookers, only 3-4 working, and they take 15-20 minutes to get hot. the shower sprinkles everywhere.

Felt just like home. The man at the front desk was so kind and helpful throughout my stay. You are a 3 minute walk to the beach, which was very private), right on the board walk to cathedral cove, and restaurants and cafes are a 1 minute walk away. The location couldn’t have been any better.

The place also provides shovels for hot sand beach!

I stayed for three days and it always smelled so fresh as they do a great job keeping it clean. There are plenty of windows that keep the place fresh and airy. My only complaint is that the walls between bedrooms are incredibly thin so I could hear every word of the person staying in the room next to me. It kept me up every night, as the people weren’t the most considerate.
