Distinction Heritage Gateway Hotel Omarama — Hotel in South Island

Property is large and just off the main road close to a fuel station with ample free car parking. The room given to us was a triple bed occupancy and was a really big spacious and clean room, although very dated and slightly musty . It maybe a considered a little expensive considering the location and quality.Lighting in the room was poor and one could not draw the curtains back as privacy was affected. The beds were too high narrow and not comfortable. It looks like the room has been recently renovated but then who has designed a small bathroom where the toilet paper holder is literally at your face level when sitting on the toiletseat or that no dustbin is kept in the bathroom. |One of the reception girls was not at all obliging, refusing to give us an additional room heater to warm the freezing big room (which the inbuilt one was ineffective in doing). She asked us to personally come down to collect extra towels for the third person which ideally should have been provided without us even asking considering we had paid for triple occupancy. She wasn't willing to give extra sugar satchets etc saying one should got o the restaurant oneslef and pick it up. Location🌕🌕🌓 It's in the centre of the Omarama, and Omarama it's in the centre of nowhere, so i don't expect much but a quite night rest.

Parking🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕 Plenty for all sorts vehicles, coach, van, trailer, and big enough space for maneuver if you clumsy with your trailer like me.

Dining🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕 Decent on-site restaurant, enough for i would say 30+ ppl easily, got two sections, buffet and booze, ive just had 3 course buffet for dinner, i was stuned by the abundance of it. Im stuffed

Cleaness🌕🌕🌕🌓 Not perfect, but is more about the age and maintenance of it, i been travelling all over the world(well maybe half), stayed few places, seen some weird s#@t. So I'm OK with the room conditions i have for the night here.

Room Entertainment 🌕🌕🌓 Pretty basic, tv with some channels, no netflix, movie, dvd player, smart TV nor whatsoever. But it has built in radio in the bedside table, pretty new and interesting to me, i am from China. Its like the old Hollywood movie to me

Shower🌕🌕🌕🌕🌓 Heat up pretty quick, average shower pressure, the shower head mounted to the wall is pretty low, I'm a 171cm short king and i almost bump my head to it.

Overall a decent accommodation, will i come back? For sure. Will i stay long?...

We were on a Riviera tour of New Zealand when we stayed at this hotel. They did inform us that it was basic and it was. |The rooms consisted of a double bed and a single bed. No wardrobes, but a table. The place is definitely in need of a refurbishment. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was clean and fresh. This is the sort of place that tradesmen stay at. There probably is not a better place to stay than this in the area. |Where it does excell is in the buffet meal that it provided us with. The food was very tasty and all freshly cooked. The only vegetarian was pasta which was very nice. The was plenty of freshly cooked veg which was lovely. Also the only hotel that I stayed in that did a glass of Moscato Wine. The price of the food and drink was very reasonable. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. |Breakfast was not a huge choice. There was hot and cold buffet. It did not have the choice that other hotels had. What it did do was nicely cooked and fresh food. It isn't the sort of place that I normally stay in but it did the job...
