I had a late lunch here yesterday, on the way to Mount Cook. I decided to go for the burger with a garden salad instead of fries. While the salad was better than average (had an interesting mustardy dressing), the burger was AMAZING. I had Fergburger for dinner that night, and I actually thought this burger was better than the one I had at Fergburger.

The burger was cooked perfectly and the cheese was especially good. The burger also had a thin beet peel, which added a unique slight sweetness to each bite.

Highly recommend making this your food stop on your way...

Amazing place! A random stop along the way turned out to be the best lunch during our trip across both NZ islands! Stonegrill is a must try (we tried lamb), it's both a delicacy and an experience. Fried squid was great as well, melting in mouth instead of being rubbery as it sometimes happens with squid, especially in se asia. Fireplace and warm welcoming service only added to a nice feeling in a cold autumn day. Would definitely drive specially for this place if lived in...

Staff appear to be helpful however there are a few concerns. The ordering system is somewhat misguided; if a single person orders a beverage as a takeaway item, customers who order table service get precedence.

So if you’re just ordering by yourself and there’s a few tables to be served - you can end up waiting for over 15 minutes.

There is a card surcharge which you are not informed about.

Overall, a lack of competition gives this...

Kapiti icecream is the best. Very generous portions. Great food _ great service. Didn't have to wait long for the coffees. My wife had spinach pie as she is a vegetarian and raved on the whole time about how amazing and tasty it was. Infact asked who makes them!!! A local person in Twizel. Wow. Will definitely stop on the way back.

I like that they combine bar, cafe, and a small shop, perfect for a stop while on the road! Staff was friendly, service was fast, and the food was tasty! The halloumi sallad was good, but a bit small for me, don't get it if you know you have a big stomach! Otherwise portion sizes were good!
