Sierra Motel — Hotel in South Island

The unit was certainly spacious and well appointed. Poor water pressure, though. Our 2-star rating is not based on the unit but the rudeness of the woman who was at reception. We asked if there was secure storage for bikes - not an unreasonable request given this town is on the Alps to Ocean cycle trail. And rain was coming. We were immediately met with hostility and were basically told off like we were children for even suggesting there was a need for secure storage - apparently there's no crime in Omarama. Clearly, they've been burnt before when people have taken their bikes into units and made a mess. But we weren't asking to do that. As accommodation providers ourselves, we bend over backwards to meet guests' requests where at all possible. We noticed 2 garages on the property - no room for 2 bikes to squeeze in? We've been touring around the lower South Island for a little over 2 weeks, staying at motels for generally about 2 nights at a time. The Sierra Motel ranks as one of the nicest we have seen in the whole trip. The exterior looks dated but the interior is fabulous - large, clean, comfortable, and modern. There is a large TV (with basic Sky - would like to access Netflix), king bed, two lounge chairs and a good work/dining space as well as a large shower with two shower heads, and a large outdoor area with an exterior table and 2 chairs. We enjoyed a G&T outside our unit in the fading afternoon sun - very pleasant. Although I did not end up staying at Sierra Motel, I had initially booked a reservation there. Due to a glitch in another booking platform, I inadvertently double-booked my accommodation.

Despite Sierra Motel's strict no-refund policy, they went above and beyond to assist me. Understanding my predicament, they promptly processed a refund for my booking, even though I had not yet stayed at their establishment.
