I traveled around New Zealand for a month, and this was hands down the best hostel I stayed in. The fireplace and the evening vege soup brought everyone together in the common area, making it so easy to meet new people. In rainy Franz Josef, the hot tub was the perfect way to relax and enjoy the moment. What I appreciated most was how much love the owner puts into this place. You could always see him taking care of the hostel with a joyful heart and a genuine passion for what he does. He made an effort to remember every guest’s name and face, and was always attentive and thoughtful. One night, my friends and I were playing cards and drinking wine in the common area when we ran out of snacks. Just as we were saying, “I wish we had something to munch on,” he appeared with freshly made popcorn. We still talk about that moment — it felt so special. I kept running into people I met at the hostel as I continued my travels, and we all shared the same feeling: we missed this place. Thanks to this hostel, Franz Josef has become my favorite town in New Zealand. Even though I stayed for five days in this tiny town, it was so hard to leave.

Best hostel I have visited out of 5 all around New Zealand! Also stayed with a buddy that’s been travelling NZ for 10 months and seen over 20 hostels and this is by far the best hostel so far for both of us. Free hot tub, showers and sink in the room, free homemade vegetable soup for dinner and free breakfast. Common room has a separate tv room and kitchen is separated so everyone can have space when relaxing or eating. The owner Benjamin is the kindest dude with a heart of gold. I would travel an extra 2 hours just to stay here versus the surrounding hostels. The views just from the hostel are spectacular with amazing hikes everywhere you go. Also free limo pickup on Friday nights directly to a nice bar in town with a pool table and friendly locals and good food. If your staying near Franz Joseph this is the spot to be 100%

Perfectly organized and extremely friendly operators. The whole complex has a great atmosphere. Good facilities and lots on offer, such as a whirlpool, washing machines and a large communal kitchen. More like a youth hostel than a motel. There is some breakfast and an edible soup in the evening. Unfortunately, the wifi is completely unusable. Our mattresses are at the end of their life and are more like hammocks. Everything is lovingly decorated but the rooms are still very worn, somewhat rancid and musty smelling with lots of cobwebs.

I had the most amazing time at Glow Worm. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the vibes were amazing and the hostel was great! ||The hostel was very clean, rooms were very nice, great location and they had a very good free breakfast and soup! The kitchen is big and the dining room and living room is well set up. (There’s a separate tv room as well full of movie options.) Lots of seating options inside and outside! They even have a popcorn maker free to use anytime and a spa till 7pm! There is laundry available at all times and they have an epic music playlist. ||I stayed in the 4 bed room and it even had its own bathroom and shower in the room, a mini kitchen with a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. The decor in the room was very cute, bed was comfy and even had a good view of the glacier.||Benjamin is an awesome owner that puts a smile on your face. Super easy going and can get along with anyone. He takes the time to get to know everyone and will surprise you when he knows everyones name. He really puts the effort to make everyone feel at home! Even brought his awesome dog Sammy to chill and let me take her out for a walk. Jackie was great, even gave us a tour of glow worms in the forest at night! The whole team was awesome and made my experience very enjoyable! ||100% recommend staying at this hostel. I would say this is my favourite hostel in...

I loved staying at the Glow Worm. Felt like family about 5 minutes after arriving. Unpretentious, funky, and a 60's throw back, I loved how the private rooms all faced the interior and you were bound to meet your neighbors as you sat out at the table and chairs outside each room. The hot tub was great, hidden in a tent structure, under a tree in the middle of this central space. There was a bbq area where everyone gathered to chat about their days adventures though no one barbecued while we were there. The owner was around in the afternoon and part of the conversation. There is free vegetarian soup served at 6pm each night. The inside common room, lounge and kitchen areas were inviting. The laundry was good. The beds were comfortable. Our bathroom and shower were dated and small, and probably the only thing that I didn't enjoy having character but it was functional. The location was excellent, right in town. I would definitely recommend the Glow Worm ..... if you...
