There are 3 Holiday Inn in Queenstown and this one probably has the best views of the lake + mountains. The room price was one of the lowest (from memory) during the time of our stay. Beside of the beautiful view and lovely friendly cleaning staff, there are few things to note: if you read the other reviews of this place, you’d probably know of the NZ$20/night parking - which I agree with others that this is more of a cash grab. There are plenty of spaces on site and ofc since this premise is located in the middle of almost nowhere, most of the customers probably drive so charging parking fee is not accepted in ny opinion. Upon knowing of the fee, I told the staff I would park outside and save NZ$80 since I stayed for 4 nights. Also I tried to deal for fre parking as I stayed for 4 nights but staff was really not flexible. Another note is when I tried to ask for 1 extra day of stay due to unforeseen weather condition that affected my plan in the town, they quoted me NZ$390 even though I already paid NZ$850 for the 4 nights. I ended up going to another place near airport for NZ$218. There were also more places with similar price. There were also lots of vacancy at other places along side Frankton road to CBD so I had no idea how they stated that the cheapest they could offer me for 1 extra nice was equal to my booked 2 nights. the room is really old and outdated, completely different to the photos here. Maybe because they gave us 1xx room, not the could-be-newer 4xx and 5xx or 6xx room. My room so quite small as well for 2 peple. We barely had room to move in the room. The bed (which was combined by 2 single beds) was not comfy at all. The TV pretty had nothing to watch. DO NOT BOOK breakfast here like us for 4 nights. The dishes were 95% the same for 4 straight morning - only the veggies noodles and fried rice were swapped in between. Staff were different - some was really helpful and some sounded half awake and not excited at all. Customer service is really a huge issue every where in a travel town such as Queenstown. We got like 3 nice customer service staff for the whole 5 days we...
Read moreStayed here for 3 nights at the beggining on July. We had booked the "Lakeview Superior Room" with breakfast included (600 block ground floor). Let's start with the checkin. The process was very efficient and we were met with a couple of lovely smiles at the front desk.
There's plenty of parking for available which is all within a relatively short walk of your room. The room was relatively modern with the usual amenities you'd expect. The slippers were a good touch considering the bathroom is tiled but there isn't underfloor heating. Note there are no bathrobes.
Good sized flat screen TV with a few channels but limited to local TV and only one Sky Sport and Movie channel each. The king bed was comfortable and with the options of both firm and soft pillows was a great added touch. Great view from our room as well. Note the pictures were taken from the restaurant but are essentially similar to the room view.
We ordered room service on a couple of different n im nights. The food was a little hit and miss overall pretty decent. Would recommend the Thai Green Curry and the Butter Chicken. Breakfast was what you'd really expect from a chain hotel with the usual choices of Breads, Pastries, Cereals, Fresh Fruits, Yogurts, Cold Cuts etc.
The hot food selection was again what you'd expect; Bacon, Eggs, Sausages, Hash Browns etc. I must add that everything was very fresh and replenished quickly once it ran out. Wait staff were absolutely superb and attentive. Probably some of the best around.
Only two things that were a let down and probably cost them a 5 star review were the following:
Room service menu pricing hasn't been updated. When we ordered the Rabbit Ranch Pinot Noir I was surprised to learn that the price had jumped from $40 a bottle to $55. Was told that it was the old menu. Not sure why it wasn't updated.
The room service tray was left outside the room on the Friday morning around 9.20am and wasn't cleared until Saturday afternoon.
Overall would recommend staying here and definitely go for the...
