Hostel was great to meet other travelers and the common area was great for that, we usually gathered and chatted and was able to plan different trips and join people. The hostel said it offered trips and it made it seem like the owner ran these but apparently he wasn’t even in Oman so I ended up not joining them and instead rented a car with a girl I met there. The hostel is definitely run down, the female dorm needs a lot of deep cleaning and so does the kitchen. The female dorm felt very crowded and there were bags all over the floor, definitely too small of a room 4 bunk beds and everybody’s luggage. While I was there the boiler broke and it started pouring water all over the kitchen! Rather than the staff taking care of it, the people staying were putting buckets and one girl called her uncle who was a plumber to see what could be done. After my road trip I came back to the hostel to find out that they were closing it! Some travelers already staying at the hostel got cancelation notifications through booking.com with no explanation, others were contacted by the owner and a hand full were never notified. Within hours everybody was told to just leave! Thankfully they had a volunteer from Germany who was able to use logic (rather than emotion) to solve the situation. The nephew of the owner who is running the hostel seemed to be overwhelmed and definitely did not understand the impact of kicking people out of a hostel has on people. Thankfully with the help of the volunteer everything worked out but still after traveling to over 90 countries I’ve never seen a hostel owner who decided to close a hostel one day and kicks...
Read moreThe hostel nice BUT (and this is important), it moved the day before I came. Not next door but miles away. Zero notice or correspondence from the manager/owner. There wasn’t even a sign up on the building and it wasn't really showing up on Google. The owner was still putting in carpeting. Also limited amenities, like no breakfast or tour information offered. I chose this place for the atmosphere and tours and there was none. The owner really should have given the guests a discount and a heads up about the changes.||Otherwise, the house was very clean and the decor in the photos was being set up. The rooms are nice and spacious and have good A/C. Shower wasn't operational during my visit.||It's an easy walk to a supermarket and an excellent bakery/falafel shop. You're in a quiet residential area. Definitely set up OTaxi before you arrive so you...
Read moreI booked the hostel for 4 nights via booking. I even was in contact with the owner and he seemed friendly. I told him that I arrive in the middle of the night. He said it was no problem, they will welcome me. So I arrive in the middle of the night, order an Otaxi and go to the hostel. No one is there, I call no one answers. The taxi driver calls. I check again on booking and see the property cancelled last minute. I am solo travelling stranded in the middle of the night. I was sitting in the taxi thinking what I could do ... then the owner arrives and tells me to wait and then wants to bring me to another place. I declined because I lost trust and was afraid. This put me in a very bad position - I was lucky the taxi driver was patient, and let me use his phone to call another hostel. Very...
