Location: The hotel’s location is excellent, situated right in the heart of Cinta Costera. It offers easy access to the nearby promenade, fine dining options, and popular tourist attractions. Additionally, its proximity to a pedestrian crossing traffic light is a significant advantage in Panama City, making it safer and more convenient to explore the area on foot.
Room: The room was spacious and offered a stunning view of the bay, marina, skyline, and even the old town Casco Viejo in the distance. We enjoyed breathtaking sunrises and sunsets right from our bed. During the Panama Canal Summer Festival—a 3-day celebration marking 25 years of the canal under Panamanian control—we were treated to a spectacular fireworks display directly across from our window.
Beds and Pillows: The beds and pillows were large, plush, and incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful stay.
Shower: The shower was excellent, providing hot water with a steady, strong stream—perfect for relaxing after a long day.
Service: The service ranged from mediocre to outstanding. The housekeeping staff was exceptional, providing the best service during our stay. The front desk was standard, while the breakfast waitstaff fell short, often leaving us waiting for attention.
Breakfast: The breakfast menu rotated daily but consistently featured fresh fruits, juices, coffee, tea, a variety of breads, yogurt, oatmeal, eggs, meats, smoked salmon, and local dishes. There was even a selection of dim sum, adding a nice touch. However, the buffet was understaffed, making it difficult to get coffee or tea refills, which was frustrating and uncomfortable.
Facilities: The hotel offers a range of amenities, including a security box, mini bar, coffee and tea, a gym, spa, tennis court, and a generously sized outdoor pool. These facilities added to the overall comfort and enjoyment of our stay.
Areas for Improvement: Coffee and Tea Service: It would be more convenient to have a self-serve station for coffee and tea, as the current system of relying on waitstaff was inefficient and often left us waiting. Electrical Equipment: The room’s electrical equipment felt outdated, and the outlets were poorly placed and difficult to access, which was inconvenient for charging devices.
Overall Impression: Despite a few shortcomings, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the InterContinental Miramar Panamá and would recommend it to anyone visiting Panamá City. The stunning views, comfortable accommodations, and excellent facilities made for a...
Read moreIHG Platinum Elite customer (auto bonus points were received but otherwise no mention of status). Booked an award stay (classic King room) in points for 2-nights in late March for the equivalent of about $150USD per night (above average price in Panama). Printed out my confirmation before leaving home, which now said King Ocean View with Lounge. Yipeee!! We took an official taxi from the airport for $25USD (quick trip - 15 mins). The location has great views of the water (over the highway), note it is a bay and more calm and tidal, no real beaches. Right next to a glorious long walking promenade that goes all the way to Casco Viejo (you have to take a couple of pedestrian bridges over the highway) but very safe and a great walk - probably a brisk 45 minutes to Casco Viejo. Easy to walk to restaurants, easy to use Uber everywhere. On arrival they tell us they don't have ocean view any more so sorry, and they are not sure why my reservation mentioned lounge but that is wrong too. Gee, gonna give me a hammock for the front palm tree next? :) Instead, they said they gave me an "upgraded executive floor room" and after showing them my printed materials and having a friendly discussion, they did give me the lounge access (which doesn't do breakfast, only evenings). Fair compromise I think.
Room was nice and clean, I can't say I felt it was cutting edge 2022 remodel and not sure what was particularly "executive floor" about it but what do I know. The shower was always hot with a glass half-wall and weird control that basically only did cold and SCORCH LAVA temperatures. WIFI was intermittent but generally good. Bed was comfortable and hotel was quiet. No hairdryer in the room. Could not see ANYTHING out of the windows because covered with algae growth. They have an in-room Keurig but don't provide Keurig pods and instead packaged granules to mix with the Keurig hot water. The evening executive lounge had nice mix of wine/ beer and nice small appetizers and desserts.
Overall I thought it is a great location, staff were fairly helpful, but also not amazing for the price and some small issues. For the right price, I wouldn't hesitate to return there but probably not at this price point. Honestly better than a 3 rating but not quite up to 4 either. Definitely hit the local Metropolitan Park for some nice light hiking and local plants/ animals ($5 foreigner entry and $5 Uber...
Read moreI stayed here for business, and good quality sleep is critical for me. Unfortunately, the hotel sits in the middle of 2 busy streets, so traffic noise was terrible until about midnight, and then it started again by 6 am. Also, while I enjoyed the suite room and views, at night the curtains do not block exterior lighting. I need a dark, quiet room for good sleep. At least the bed was comfy. Also, the shower is in dire need of updating. I couldn't adjust the water spray, and I couldn't figure out how to use the handheld. Maintenance had to show me, and he even had some trouble. Again, the water spray wasn't adjustable, so the show experience isn't very good.
The location was about 15 minutes from the convention center which was great. Staff provided excellent & friendly service, which is inline with Intercontinental properties around the world. I was very disappointed that the amenity gift was fruit, which was readily available in the Club Lounge. That was a missed opportunity to provide guests with a tangible momento from Panama. I probably sound entitled, but when traveling for business, I don't have time to go out and get a souvenir, so it would be nice if IHG Miramar would consider providing a nice memory of Panama to bring back to the office.
The restaurant food was just ok. I dined there on Thursday because of the folklore show, which was very colorful, but I didn't eat more than 25% of my meal.
I used the Club Lounge twice daily. The hotel definitely needs to add more small tables to accommodate single guests. The views were great and the lounge staff were great. Breakfast was excellent, and Happy Hour was good. It could've been better if they didn't run out of food (a daily thing), and if they limited fried foods to just one.
In summary, the hotel is in a good location. The friendly staff provide top notch service. The restaurant & salon are meh. Sleep is impacted with light and traffic noise so beware. I will stay here again next year though, since it's the only Intercontinental near the convention center.
Next year I will return to this hotel, and I will look for some positive changes. I do my best to book IHG properties, so I hope management reads my review and takes...
