Visited in July 2024. Panama. Panama-city. We found this restaurant after reading some great reviews online. It offers Japanese cuisine with a touch of Western influence. The restaurant itself is on the seventh floor, spacious, with a dark and moody atmosphere that feels almost like a trendy lounge. The Food: We were delighted to see some of our favourite ingredients on the menu, such as wagyu beef, bluefin tuna, foi-gras and other fish varieties you typically find in Japan. The restaurant features Pan-Asian cuisine, so we opted for a variety of small plates to try and experience as many flavours as possible. We started with three different tartare dishes served in tin cans - beautifully and uniquely presented. The fish was incredibly fresh, each dish carefully balanced with spices. Our favourite was the kampachi tartare. Next, we tried the bluefin tuna tartare - this fish is prized for its rich, fatty flavour - absolutely delicious and fresh. Another favourite was the salmon mousse tubes - the intense smoked flavour gave the dish a unique twist, reminding us of a sausage. We were also impressed with the Senator rolls, which are served without rice. The light texture of the delicate crab and slightly crispy prawn, combined with the sauce, was a delightful experience. All of the nigiri we tried were delicious - our favourite was the foie gras brioche with green apple and unagi - highly recommended. I must also mention their divine bread, which they brought out as a complimentary treat. Service: The service was excellent. The waiters spoke a little English, making it easy for us to order. We also felt well looked after by the manager, which was a nice touch. Overall: Highly recommended! We haven't had such tasty Pan-Asian cuisine outside of Asia in a long time. Everything we tried was delicious and faultless. They use high-quality, fresh ingredients. If you're looking for a good Asian restaurant, this is the place for you - perfect for a more formal evening or a more relaxed occasion.

Everything about this place is very hip and mod - starting with the speakeasy hidden entrance through the backdoor of what appears to be a flower shop. With that little hocus pocus aside, you enter into a bustling, sprawling restaurant. This place has an ambitious menu - almost like the cheesecake factory but instead of pan american, mass produced pablum, they are turning out thoughtful and playful small plates and bites with fresh, high quality ingredients. If I hadn't ordered sushi, escargot and stewed lamb off the same menu and enjoyed all three, i would not have believed the range the kitchen has. Special shout out for their bread service, which are house made fluffy and delicious pop overs...hard to execute and time consuming! As an added bonus, the service we experienced was excellent. From the waiter to the food runners to the hostess, everyone was polite, prompt and professional. We were seated in a room with about 8 tables, all of whom had 8 PM reservations and arrived within 10 mins of each other but the trains still ran on time and the staff didn't miss a beat that I could tell. The Manager introduced himself and seemed to genuinely want his patrons to have a good experience. When a manager is highly visible, that shows a lot of care to me. Lastly, this place is very instagrammable, if that's your thing. The food and drinks are as tasty as they are artistic and the decor is chic and dramatic. Whether you're doing it for the 'gram or doing it for a good, inventive meal, you will be happy you dined here. Bon Appétit!

The entrance is amazing. Sets the exciting mood and the scent begins a new experience. I loved the decor. Varying styles stimulate creativity in the mind. My wife and I had some delicious cocktails. I really enjoyed the sangria and my wife enjoyed a fig cocktail. The service was good. Two waited on us and they were very nice and fast. They checked on us just the right amount of times. Now to the food. I had some of the best appetizers I've ever had. The fish tartare in a can was delicious and I loved the pairing of good raw fish served in fish cans. The bread was delicious and I highly recommend the dates with bacon. They were delicious. We had some sashimi which was also delicious. All of these items were good and I recommend. The entrees. These were not good. At all. We only had two of course but if these are a sample of the quality of their entrees, I recommend staying with the appetizers. I had the beef Wellington. The layering of meat to mushroom was way off and the crust was too hard. While the meat was tender, the thing just fell apart trying to eat it. I managed to eat half but it was not an enjoyable experience. My wife had the short ribs. They tasted like liquid smoke. My wife only ate one bite. I tried it, thinking that maybe it wasn't her thing but it wasn't good. I do not recommend these entrees. Overall, I found it an above average experience and I would probably go again, I just wouldn't order the entrees. Stick to appetizers and sushi!

Excellent food, service and ambience. Ordered sparkling water and they provided an array of garnishments for subtle flavoring (I. E. Ginger, lime lemon etc.). The Lobster cerviche was delicious, flavored perfectly and came with a spicy picante sauce! Superb! Both of us ordered sea bass, one the chefs special - sea bass with squid and black risotto and the other the sea bass Filet with crispy potatoes. Both excellent! The waiting staff was awesome ensuring that our glasses were filled and we were happy. Also after the cerviche they provided us with a sorbet ball to cleanse the palate. Awesoms and highly recommended! Changed my rating... Second time around the non ethnic host denied allowing us to dine inside but on the patio area due to dress code (dinner companion had on shorts... Uhm it's 90+degrees in Panama sir!). I find that particularly noteworthy because when we dined before, the ethnic host graciously seated us in inside and we were dressed very similar. While we were outside awaiting Uber we saw a group of poorly dressed non ethnic tourists greeted and seated. Perhaps, the non ethnic host didn't want to muddy up the makeup of diners for that night... At any rate, I was offended. I'm not rating them down terribly low because the food was great and the service (from the mostly ethnic servers) was superb...

The Azahar Restaurant in Panama City is a hidden gem that offers a truly exceptional dining experience. Here's a review of what you can expect: First, you walk through a door that reminds you of a speakeasy from long ago. The restaurant has a cozy and inviting ambiance, with warm lighting and contemporary decor. It's a perfect place to enjoy a romantic or leisurely meal and soak up the local atmosphere. The staff at Azahar are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were happy to recommend dishes based on our preferences and provide helpful suggestions. Alejandro was very nice to us and made us feel welcome. The menu features a wide variety of classic dishes, prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. From savory small dishes from the sea, sushi, sashimi, and meats. There's something to satisfy every palate. Some of the must-try dishes include Beef Wellington and sea bass. Azahar is a fantastic restaurant that offers a memorable dining experience with stunning views of the city skyline. If you're looking for signature cuisine with a Western European cut and Asian influences this is a must-visit spot.

We came to Azahar Panama in May 2023 for a dinner, and were seated outside. It's a narrow balcony and usually fits multiple separate 2-person tables. It's gotta be very romantic and beautiful to see the sunset. But we were a party of 6, and the table had to be set up differently, so it was not as convenient. There was not enough space for the personnel to walk freely, and I was bumped into several times 😔. And even though it was outside, it was a hot and humid evening, and unfortunately, the fan, positioned in the corner, did not have enough reach, leaving us sweaty. So advice for larger groups, ask to be seated inside. And the inside is amazing. Beautiful decor, multiple rooms for parties of different sizes, huge wine cellar walls, flowers... They get 10 out of 5 for that. Unfortunately, when it came to food, it did not match their decor. The food was good, cooked well, mind you, but I guess we expected more. Compared to some other restaurants we visited in Panama City, it was a solid 4, but not enough for 5. Sorry, everything is relative. Still, definitely come here for the sunset, the views, and the overall atmosphere.
