Alcala Hotel — Hotel in David

I would you give this hotel five stars but the service in the restaurant is pitiful. The check in went nicely and the service was very good. The room is really nice, better than basic. The bed is comfortable. The restaurant looks nice so I decided to order their Special Burger. When I picked it up off the plate half of the bun stuck to the plate. It had a slice of lunch meat ham on the bottom of the hamburger patty and some bacon on top, surprisingly salty. I've been trying lots of cheeseburgers here in Panama in my 50 plus days wandering around here and this is definitely the most underwhelming burger I've ever had. I also ordered a vodka with water and ice. They brought me Seco. I really needed a drink so I nursed it and I know it's a national drink but it's certainly isn't vodka. I asked for a second drink with Smirnoff specifically and was presented with almost a double . I ordered get a third and it might have been an ounce of vodka... I finished it in like two sips. Really sad. To top that off I was tempted every time I needed some server assistance to get up and wave . I was really surprised at the lack of attention. Seriously, of my 50+ days this time in Panama, this is the most dismal service I've had . I have residency in Panama and I haven't had this kind of service anywhere except here, very surprised. Many other people give this restaurant high ratings so I certainly hope this is a singular experience. Once again I highly recommend the rooms and the price...

Brilliant location. We only needed this as a stop-gap night as we had to drop our hire car off in David and get the bus the next day to Bocas. I chose this hotel because it was super close to the bus station - only a few minutes walk. Considering it's downtown and the surrounding is fairly noisy, when you're inside the hotel it's very quiet. ||||The staff greeting us on arrival was lovely and friendly. There was no breakfast included but there seems to be a large restaurant joined to the hotel (I couldn't quite tell if it belonged to it or not) and they serve food all day. We had dinner there and breakfast the following morning - both great, not expensive.||||The hotel was a little colder than it needed to be. My boyfriend turned the air-con down partway through the night and then it was all good. Big bedroom, comfortable beds and a great hot shower! The hotel isn't expensive so I'd recommend if you just need it as a stop-gap. If you want to stay longer in David I'd personally go for somewhere with a little more character (as I was with my boyfriend) but that's...

Our family was travelling overland from Costa Rica to Panama City. The cross-border Tracopa bus from CR terminates in David. We decided to stay in David for the night before catching an onward bus the next morning.||||We chose to stay at Hotel Alcala because it's fairly close to the bus station, affordable, and well rated. ||||We went in without any expectations and were pleased with the size of the room, the comfort of the beds, the shower, etc. The furnishings were basic but we weren't looking for much.||||Our stay was short but nice.
