Aloft is a boutique hotel located next to the Sheraton, a larger and slightly more expensive hotel. Aloft shares parking with the Sheraton and has a modern, urban style in the lobby and a restaurant called "Red" that serves fusion food. We went to the restaurant. It was slightly overpriced, and there were no desserts/cappuccino available. It was around 8:30pm and there were no customers and service was friendly but very slow that I actually worried that we were ordering outside of restaurant hours! I recommend the wings and fries from the XYZ bar menu. The parking didn't cost me anything when I was there. I got in and out without any issue and I did not pay for valet service. I didn't have the greatest of views from the hotel, but it didn't really matter. The beds were very comfortable and the pillows were especially like sleeping on clouds. The amenities in the room were modern as well as the decor. The large shower had hot water. The television was a nice flat screen. I was able to get an additional trundle bed for my daughter at no additional cost. The coffee maker worked fine and ice was available in the lobby. I tried to call for room service to get additional coffee packets, and I couldn't get through, so I walked down to the front desk. It all worked out. A really nice feature is that a "grab-and-go" snack service/convenience food was available in the lobby that allowed us to get some microwave popcorn and drinks. It was $12 for microwave popcorn, 1 bar of chocolate and three drinks. Jenga was available at the table for a quick game play to pass the time. It was a nice touch. The cappuccino machine was not working, which made me a little sad, but that's fine. I would stay here again. The pricing was fairly low in comparison to competitors. The staff was very nice and helpful. However, the hotel doesn't have any ocean views available that are worth looking at. When I asked for one, they gave me a ocean view with a large and ugly building blocking it. I get the feeling that they get a lot of customers who make demands that make the counter staff quite weary. The views from the pool area also were mostly disheveled buildings. The pool was nice and big enough for a few families to enjoy with easy-access bathrooms. My daughters and I enjoyed our time at Aloft. The restaurant at the Sheraton, Las Hadas, is also very easy to get to from Aloft and they have amazing desserts there. I would recommend eating there instead of Red, the ALoft restaurant. The hotel is only a quick 5-10 minutes away from Multiplaza Mall--an uber would be cheap. Atlapa is within walking distance if there is an event. We also really wanted to visit Cleo's Cat Cafe, which is close. There is also a coffee bean and tea leaf nearby and the famous Isthmus Brew Pub. ALoft is around $30-40 less than the Sheraton and is a nice budget alternative. For people staying at the Sheraton, I imagine that they could easily find free parking at ALoft instead of paying the...
Read moreThe hotel is pretty nice. The team that works at the reception, and the talent that maintains the room does an outstanding job. The attention for details lacks at moments. I had rooms that smelled, systems that were unplugged in spaces where i can't reach, but that has never been to the point that I wouldn't come back (I must be at 7 checkins here for the year, and it's April). Most times I had a perfectly prepared room, super welcoming hosts that recognize me, and so on. Still waiting for the first manager that isn't to shy to greet me (something tells me a public review might help)
There's however a part of the staff that has a problem with consistency or with customer service. When there's 6 guests waiting to check in, staff can't just walk by and not assist, especially since I know they have checked me in on previous occasions.
I'm a spoiled SPG gold for life, and the perks like separate check in don't work here, partially because how the reception is organized. But with most of the boys and girls that work here, you'll not even notice that, as they are fast.
In the WXYZ bar, staff makes or brakes your evening. I had gin tonics made with love, and on other days in the same week had something that didn't had lemon, cucumber, or even some spark in the tonic that must have been open for days. Oh, guys, can we replace those straws you give with every cocktail with something that isn't so harmful, and maybe reusable? #noexcuseforsingleuse & #plasticstrawssuck
And, despite it being 2018, no vegan or real vegetarian option on the menus of the restaurant or room service (yeah, true, there are fries!). Scraping bacon of potato skins isn't making a veggie meal ;-)
If you're a big spender, have a starbucks frappuccino from the fridge next to the reception. That'll set you back $6... (I buy that in Manhattan, NY for less than $3) There is a convenience store across the street (closes at 9pm) that hasn't inflated their prices as much as the hotel. You're welcome.
Don't get scared if the music in the bar is a bit loud, rooms are far enough. The bar attracts in weekends a local, rather wealthy crowd. I have almost never had any noise from outside the hotel or the bar in my room.
So, in summary. Upscale, not cheap, and if the management and staff works a bit on details, amongst the better Panamá City spots. I'll be back, and I'll hope to edit this review soon to a...
Read moreLuckily we only stayed here one night in order to be closer to the airport for an early flight. We pre-scheduled an Uber for a 0430 am pickup from our hotel to give us plenty of time to check in at the airport. Upon arriving at the Aloft Hotel, it seemed rather straight forward, we were greeted upon entering and directed up the escalator to check in. Check in was pretty simple and the lady at the desk explained the restaurant situation to us. We got a room on the 16th Floor so had a decent view and at first it was super quiet. Upon entering the room it did look a little run down, but we figured oh well it is just one night. We did noticed on the top shelf of the closet that it appears someone left behind a plastic faceshield from a previous guest and that housekeeping may have missed. I don't think these come standard with the room and upon examining it, it was dirty, but I did wash my hands afterwards. One thing we did like was the Brewpub downstairs, the food was pretty good and reasonably priced. We then got settled in for the night and after the noise quieted down in the hallway, we did get some sleep. The next morning we were up bright and early to catch our Uber for the airport. Upon going down to the Lobby we noticed that there was nobody to be found, not a single humanbeing in sight nor a notice on how to get ahold of one. We also quickly noticed that the doors to the hotel were completely locked at all entrances and we could not get out. Our Uber showed up and we tried to explain to him through the glass that we were trapped inside the hotel. We called out for a person several times with no response, we searched for a phone number or anything to get ahold of someone with no luck. We finally decided to wonder the hotel in search of a human. It took us walking all the way to the lobby of the attached Sheraton Hotel to finally find a security guard. He had to unlock the hotel door on the Sheraton side to let us out, then we had to walk a block around the hotel back to the Aloft entrance and luckily our Uber waited for us. This all could have been prevented if the hotel would have let us know that they were going to lock us in from the beginning or had a security guard on the Aloft side to let us out. First and last...
