We were really excited to stay at this place, but we were rather disappointed by the entire experience. The room and view was beautiful, and the bed was very comfortable, so no complaints there. But there was hardly any warmth and hospitality from the owners of the place. We didn't receive much of a welcome when we arrived, save for telling us what time lunch would be served. Mealtimes were in the dining room, but we were the only guests there and so each mealtime was quiet and eerie with no atmosphere. Meals were at specific times and there was a specific menu (they did not ask us about dietary restrictions or preferences beforehand so there was some tension during our first meal). Meals were simply placed before us, sometimes without explanation, and then they would leave the room. There were no "hot & cold drinks" as advertised, only coffee for breakfast, some tea sachets throughout the day, and plain water. There was once I was hungry around 4pm and I asked if there was anything to eat as a snack, and their first response was NO. Only when I persisted and asked for some fruit or atleast a banana did they bring a plate of fruit to the room. But it wasn't a very pleasant experience to ask and receive that kind of response - especially from a place that advertises as "all-inclusive", and it added to the lack of warmth that we experienced from them. ||We stayed for 3 days and 2 nights and there was not much to do besides taking a tour to Taquile Island (6 hours - highly recommended), touring around the floating islands (approx. 1.5 hours), and a ride on their traditional boat (approx. 1 hour). It was nice to disconnect and enjoy nature, but we also felt at points that we were stuck there, because the only way to leave would be by boat which they had to operate - and the feeling that we got from them was that it would not be an option. The combination of fixed mealtimes and menus, and the inability to move as we wished, made the experience feel quite restrictive and not entirely enjoyable. It was also incredibly hot during the day (in February) and the cabin would heat up to the point of suffocation and there were no fans. But there was a heater placed in our room for the night, which was incredibly cold. Also at times our toilet flush would not work for hours and the water pressure in the shower was so low it was not an option to wash my hair, but at least there was hot water. But these were things that I suppose we had to expect when staying on a floating island. ||Overall, I would still recommend the place for its beauty and peace, but I would say go with zero expectations of hospitality and bring...
Read moreI don’t think I’ve ever had to think so hard about reviewing a place. But being back in bustling/hectic/insane Lima, brings words aplenty to describe Kay Pacha Lodge, “Paradise” “Heavenly” “ethereal,” these are just a few that come to mind. We stayed in the lodge/casita/room with the 360 view. Even now, words don’t come easily to describe just how majestic this place is. A part of me wants to say nothing, as if the place would remain just a secret escape for me, but Armando and his family are such wonderful people, they deserve the whole world to know about their lodge. Hopefully, it will remain unchanged for our next visit. ||Armando is wonderful and full of knowledge about the lake and its people. He takes great pride in sharing his knowledge about his ancestry and how they came to live on the lake. ||The food!!!!!! The food!!! Simple but delicious!! Everything was prepared with great care and I would love even dare say, love. Chef at 5* restaurants can only wish that their food would convey the emotions the food served by Armando (he’s the boat driver, tour guide, concierge and your waiter) had. ||No photos can do this place justice as the eyes are the only way to truly see it. Not even the best photographer with the best equipment could capture such beauty.||Kay Pacha Lodge was the highlight of our visit to Peru and we will...
