Our stay at the Amalia Titicaca Lodge was one of the highlights of our trip, which is saying something considering how much we loved Peru. Juan and Amalia have created a beautiful, luxurious and relaxing experience that is so much more than just a place to stay. We were given wonderful, fresh, home cooked local meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner and the room - and particularly the bed - were excellent. As other guests have noted, you are staying on a reed island so there is both a wet and a dry toilet but everything is perfectly clean. It can also get quite cold at night, but Juan and Amalia provided three lovely hot water bottles and there's a heater in the room. The price of the booking included a sunset cruise in their traditional reed boat and a guided tour of the island with Juan, who explained everything about local culture and traditions. We also had the chance to dress up in traditional clothing and make some reed crafts (which will have pride of place on our Christmas tree this winter). Juan and Amalia were so welcoming but also gave us plenty of time to relax in our own space, which is easy to do when surrounded by the exceptional views. Staying here was truly a once in a lifetime experience and ended up being far more memorable than the alternative of staying at a generic hotel on the mainland and joining a busy group tour. Truly exceptional and would recommend to anyone.

*At the time of writing, protests are still ongoing in Puno but these did NOT affect our stay at Amalia lodge! We travelled from CopaCabana Bolivia via boat with no issues and got the night bus out of Puno to Cusco. Juan and his brother-in-law Walter were incredibly helpful with navigating the protests in Puno* I had the most amazing stay at Amalia lodge from start to end of the trip we were made to feel welcome and comfortable by Juan, Amalia and their lovely children. The room is beautiful and has spectacular views of the lake. Juan and Amalia prepared all of our meals for us they were delicious and healthy! During dinner, Juan put hot water bottles in our bed just one example of the attention to detail they went to to make sure we were comfortable. Juan and Amalia went above and beyond to make the stay memorable. We were taken on a boat ride around the islands and Juan took the time to explain the history of the islands and of the Uros people. We also went on a trip on a traditional boat to catch fish and help harvest the reeds. As well as make beautiful crafts for us to take home out of the reeds AND still had time to relax and enjoy the peace of Lake Titicaca. Overall a truly unforgettable trip, Amalia and Juan deserve all of the fantastic reviews that they receive.

Peaceful and tranquil place It’s a very unusual and relaxing experience to spend time on the lake in this cozy hotel. The hotel itself consists of two houses and one building for the restaurant. ROOMS: actually it’s a rather spacious house with a bedroom, bathroom with a shower and small room on the upper floor. There is a terrace with sunbeds and chairs outside the building. FOOD: it’s all inclusive hotel which means lunch/dinner/breakfast included. Everything is very tasty! Lunch and dinner consisted of soup, main dish and fresh fruits. All portions are big and nutritious, fish and chicken were really fresh and extremely tender! They also serve water, teas and coffee, there are no beer or other alcoholic drinks available. LOCATION: it’s approximately 15 minutes distance from the pier by boat. FACILITIES: there are no wi-fi, but stable LTE connection, you can ride a kayak or have a small trip with the local boat. STAFF: Juan is very smiley and friendly. He told us a lot of information about Uros people and their life.

If you are wanting to visit Lake Titicaca and the Uros people, Amalia Lodge is the place to stay. Juan Carlos, Amalia and their family have created a truly unique experience, combining a luxury boutique lodge with a rich cultural experience and they couldn’t have got the balance any better.

Amalia Lodge is situated a 5 minute boat ride from the main Uros community, which gives it a sense of privacy and luxury. The moment you pull up to their island, you can tell that the quality surpasses the other lodges that you have travelled past on the way out. As you step onto the island you will certainly know that you have made the right choice as Juan Carlos, Amalia and their 3 children Andres, Alisandra and Andes welcome you with huge smiles while dressed in their traditional Uros clothing.

You’ll instantly notice the floor to ceiling panoramic windows at each end of both their lodges while getting a glimpse of the very stylish yet traditional decor inside (no more to say here, the pictures speak for themselves). You’d expect been on a floating island the amenities would be limited, however you have a constantly supply of hot water and electricity. As you might also expect, due to the high altitude the evenings can be very chilly, however there is a gas heater in the room and the duvet covers on the huge bed are the most comfortable I have ever experienced.

As the service Juan Carlos and Amalia provide is all inclusive you will receive 3 meals throughout the day. With a fruit selection, breads and eggs for breakfast, fish for lunch and meat for dinner. All of which are freshly prepared and taste fantastic!

The immersion in the Uros culture is truly phenomenal. Learning from Juan Carlos and Amalia how the Uros people go about there everyday lives is touching. Finding out about the many uses of the reeds, from how they use it to build islands and houses, to its medicinal uses. Spending an afternoon crafting using the same reeds. Visiting the Uros community and more of Juan Carlos and Amalia’s family. Spending time just speaking with the family and playing with the kids to learn about their culture and way of life.

I would recommend spending an absolute minimum of 2 nights at Amalia Lodge. We had stayed for 3 nights and wished that we had another night.

This isn’t just a lodge, it’s an immersive experience and one that we will cherish for the rest...

An absolutely amazing experience staying at the lodge and I can’t recommend it enough. Please do not let the ongoing political situation in Peru / Puno put you off visiting. ||I visited in March - at this time there were ‘protests’ in Puno, however these protests were very peaceful and did not impact our visit to the Uros Islands and Amalia’s lodge. There were also busses available to/from Cusco and Arequipa, as well as boats & busses to/from Copacabana in Bolivia, meaning it’s very easy to get to Puno and the Uros Islands/Amalia’s lodge. ||The stay at Amalia’s lodge was fantastic and we loved meeting Amalia, her husband Juan (who spoke perfect English) and their lovely children. They treated us exactly like family and really looked after us and made us feel welcome, as well as giving us the time and space to relax and enjoy the beautiful room, outdoor space and incredible scenery. ||During our time the family took us on a tour of the islands and told us about the history of the area and how the islands were built, and we also helped cast the nets out to do some fishing, as well as doing some crafts!||The food was also excellent - breakfast was provided each day along with a delicious 3 course meal at lunch and dinner time. ||Originally we had booked for two nights but cancelled our onwards bus to Cusco and extended our stay because we loved it so much here !||This was one of the best experiences I’ve had in South America. I cannot thank Juan, Amalia & Family enough for being so nice, welcoming and caring - it was so sad to...
