Stayed in this little Hospedaria in Beja with my family. We had a twin, a double and a single room. This used to be an old nunnery. Very cute and quaint.||||The place is very clean and very basic, just a place to lay your head. The beds are reasonably comfortable, each room has a bathroom however, the showers are very tiny. One person in our group is a tall large person and he did have trouble in the shower. Two of our rooms had a balcony overlooking the street and old monastery. All the rooms have air conditioning.||||The rooms were serviced each day. The breakfast is super basic and if it hadn't been included in the price of the room we would have gone elsewhere for breakfast.||||The downside was the receptionist. She was one of the rudest people. She was exceptionally brash when we arrived and did not explain anything. She barked at one person in our group for going the wrong way and am sure her face would have cracked if she attempted a smile. To add to this I can not say that there was a member of staff that stood out for good customer care. I know that this is a hostel type establishment but there is no excuse for bad manners.||||This really is a lovely place in a super location but the staff really do need some customer...
Read moreWe stayed here for three nights in June 2018. We had not booked ahead and chose this place based on its location, good price and availability. Our room was on the ground floor and was very comfortable, clean and quite large. The ensuite shower room was clean with everything in good order. Staff were friendly and helpful, storing our bags when we arrived several hours before check in. Breakfast was a basic continental style but it was fresh and sufficient. ||Location of the hotel is great. It’s right outside the old town walls so access to old town sights, cafes and restaurants is excellent. There is a very good Italian restaurant next door (It has the same name so I assume it’s part of the same business?), which serves excellent and very good value food and local wines. Its also only about a ten minute walk to the bus station and has nearby paid parking spots.||My only small gripe was that the WiFi only worked in one half of the room. That said it worked well enough for us to get online when we needed to.||Overall this is a good choice of accommodation, offering great value, excellent location, good comfort and...
Read moreIf you are traveling by motorcycle, there is a large square in front of the hostel where bike parking is allowed and it is also a relatively safe place because it is in front of the local police offices (I asked them where to park). Internet connection works fine. Stayed just one night. Room 111 is wide, silent and very clean. It looks new and equipped w/ a very comfortable double bed. Air conditioning (which I haven't used. Bathroom is also quite big compared to most bigger hotels nowadays. Hot water in a second. The restaurant is also great. Saw them serving some pizzas that looked delicious. I had grilled pumpkin (yes, it's Halloween) with honey, goat cheese and nut and my main dish was Alentejan black pig's meat, it tasted like heaven. They also offer good fish, as most restaurants in Portugal. Hospedaria Dona Maria offers great value for the price and people attending the facilities are very...
