Sadly this was by far the worst hotel experience we had during weeks of travelling through Portugal. Luckily we only had booked one night here, because otherwise we would’ve changed the hotel immediately. Our room was FULL of mould and by full I mean that it was everywhere: around the window, behind the bed, in all corners in the wall and in the whole bathroom - even the decoration (fake flowers) were mouldy. I do not require the highest standards and I can deal with reduced cleanliness but I have zero tolerance for mould as this is a health hazard. Also the smell was really bad. We have let the reception desk know about the mouldy room and our concerns but they just accepted it, so I feel no guilt to give my honest rating here. We left the hotel as early as possible and I think this hygienic state is unbearable. I will still talk about the other pros and cons: -The location is very central which is good and bad at the same time: you’re close to the city, but you cannot park there and it is loud (opposite a bar). -Staff was mixed: very friendly at the breakfast and very passive at the reception. -The room was tiny (no space to open the suitcase except on the bed) Breakfast was okay. I would’ve preferred to eat in one of the surrounding cafes though. If it wasn’t for the mould and bad cleanliness I would probably have given 2-3 stars, but as I said, I feel the strong urge to warn people about this...
Read moreFrom the moment we found this hotel, perfectly located within a cobbled shopping area hidden between little shops and restaurants, we fell in love with it. Such a pleasant change from the larger hotel chains, this place felt like staying with part of a family. The decor was filled with little memoirs of the lovely owners time growing up in Angola and it just felt so warm and inviting. Our room was perfect for purpose with a lovely little Juliet balcony that let the sun in and the sounds from the bustling street below. The breakfast, served every morning between 7:30 and 10:30 had a variety of continental treats and always cooked eggs available. Dina our lovely breakfast host was always very cheerful and helpful and always took time to talk with us and say hello. Such a cheerful soul and a great asset to the Hotel Bejense team. Susi on reception, the beautiful Susi, who also is a wonderful part of the team - thank you so much for putting up with our limited knowledge of the Portuguese language, without you we wouldn’t have known about the free parking and the lovely restaurant recommendations. We enjoyed our time so much in Beja and will definitely come back, but will also recommend it to anyone of our friends looking for a trip to the non touristic part of this beautiful country. Thank you for making our time here...
Read moreThis small family-run hotel is perfectly located in the old part of town on a pedestrian-only street. All the staff was very friendly, spoke great English, and willing to offer suggestions on how to get to where you want to go or suggest places to visit if you have free time. We stayed for two weeks so had an opportunity to meet some of the family members, too. We liked the location because we could walk to pretty much any place we want to go. ||Our room was cleaned everyday. The breakfast was excellent. We cannot drink dairy milk and they provided either oat milk or almond milk for us. We had a double bed which was really two twin beds made up as a king bed. The room was nicely decorated and included a mini-frig as well as TV. There is a heater in both the sleeping room and the bathroom. The bed and pillows were comfortable. For the size bed, the room was a little small. It was easy enough to walk on the sides of the bed but, if someone was sitting at the desk, another person could not pass behind them because the back of the chair was only a few inches from the foot of the bed. We were mostly able to work around that inconvenience. If you are like us and enjoy staying in hotels that reflect the local culture and meet local people, this is the...
