Wonderful, restful, rejuvenating stay at the Eurotel Altura!||Went with a friend for a quiet, beachside holiday and we were not disappointed.||The facade of the hotel is not particularly inspiring, but inside it is modern and sophisticated. All rooms have views of the sea and a balcony, which is lovely and you can hear the waves at night if you choose to keep your balcony window open.||There is an elegant boardwalk over the sand dunes down to the beautiful sandy beach, where you can walk for miles if you wish, which is delightful. There can be high winds and choppy seas at times though, which make swimming difficult. You do have to pay 17-24 euros daily if you want the use of 2 sunbeds and an umbrella at the beach, which we did not expect. |Lots of Portuguese families holiday in this area, which speaks for itself.|It's a public beach, and can get busy in peak times, but it is so vast it never feels over crowded.||I enjoyed using the hotel gym, and the garden area around the pool is well maintained, and used by guests to sunbathe. No ugly piped music at hotel, or noisy day activities.||Buffet breakfasts are wonderful, with lots of choice. We loved the fresh fruit (amazing juicy oranges), yoghurt, and cakes! It's nice to sit out on the terrace if space available.||Half board option is buffet dinner, again lots of choice. They have some themed cuisine nights on alternate evenings. Our favourite was Asiatic night. The chocolate ice cream when available, was another highlight, along with salads. A special mention to Nuno the Restaurant Manager, who was so kind and very professional. Also Susana who works very hard in the restaurant area, and is delightful. They are both a credit to the hotel.|We tried to speak to Bruno the hotel manager to convey our feedback, but sadly he appeared to be unavailable.||Our bedroom was comfortable and clean, though standard size rooms are not that spacious - fine for a beach type holiday, but if you like more space would recommend upgrading. A kettle is available in the room upon request, though the cable on ours was short, and with not many sockets free in our room, we had to keep it on the floor to use nearest socket!||The hotel is a little isolated if relying on using public transport to sightsee - few buses. Taxis are available. It would be nice in high season perhaps if the hotel offered guests a minibus service to Tavira for instance. ||All in all, Eurotel Altura is a gem. It is situated in a beautiful, undeveloped beach location (thanks to the wisdom of Portuguese authorities I understand), which makes it special. If you like lots of shops, restaurants, noisy bars and nightlife, this is not the place for you. For us it was heaven, and we will...
Read moreThe location of the hotel is excellent within a short walk to an outstanding beach. During the winter months the hotel and the area is very quiet and night life is very limited. Most of the cafes and restaurants are closed especially at night. If you want a relaxing few days that's fine especially if you come for the sun and the sea and to get away from the British weather. It makes sense therefore to book half board. The hotel is clean and well decorated with an excellent reception, sitting room and lounge. It is a well designed and attractive building and all rooms have sea views. The garden is beautiful and well kept. As it was January we have not used the outside swimming pool. It has a hydrotherapy pool (charges apply) but no internal swimming pool which is a shame. We used the gym every day and it is very well equipped. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. We found the food very enjoyable and to our liking but not always outstanding. It lacks consistency. The salads are fresh and well prepared and the fruit selection is excellent. Some of the fish meals were not so good. For breakfast it had an excellent selection of seeds and dried fruit as well as fresh fruit. The usual English breakfast although we found the fried eggs overcooked. We had some excellent walks on the beach eastwards towards Monte Gordo and westward towards Cacela Vehla. The beach runs for miles either way. Overall we had a great great value for money holiday in a beautiful...
Read moreBeautiful hotel in a stunning location. The hotel was immaculately clean with great facilities.
The breakfast was outstanding. The indoor spa was so relaxing and very reasonably priced to use.
The outdoor pool, pool bar and pool area was great. There is not a lot to do in Altura but its a very quaint and peaceful little village and lots to do in the surrounding areas although taxis are quite pricey.
Some fantastic places to eat within a few minutes walk from the hotel. Bar staff and waiting staff were very friendly. The 24 hour reception staff were very helpful with the exception of one lady.
If you like peace and quiet this hotel is the perfect place. There is no entertainment and very few children/activities. I took my teenage son who was bored at times but was a perfect place for me for a relaxing break in a beautiful and classy hotel. The beach is 1 minute walk from the hotel and is the most stunningly beautiful beach.
The surroundings of the hotel are also very pleasing. Only negative is the cat poo on the grass behind the sunbeds at the pool side which isn't pleasant on a hot day but I would definitely recommend this hotel as a place to stay. Portugal is an...
