Ester's Guest House is located very centrally in Chaves, it is close to the Trajan's bridge. Ester, the owner, is very nice and flexible - if you are lucky to arrive off-season, you can even make a privatet deal with her -, and she is willing to do everything for the guests' well-being. She speaks just portuguese but this was not a problem at all. Because I needed to work we spent 3 nights here. Our room was the nr. 21 on the second floor with a nice balcony and a private bathroom. The bed was really comfortable. She also offered breakfast in the morning (included in the price of the room), which was really great - simple coffee, tea, milk, yoghurt, croissant, ham, cheese, butter, jam, some kind of a cake (with coconut), bread, orange, banana. The accommodation was silent and awsome to rest and work also. In addition, this place is cca 100 m from a Michelin recommended restaurant (Restaurante Carvalho) where we ate delicious dishes for a reasonable price. By the way the guesthouse is always changing because Ester likes to renovate old furnitures (and she is doing it very-very well) so one day appears a chair here, a wardrobe there.....

Spacious bathroom which seemed recently refurbished so everything worked perfectly.
Fantastic location, super close to the bar streets and to the historic city center alike so everyone will find something of interest nearby
Huge balcony (which sadly didn't have the greatest of views but you could always admire the medieval wall nearby)
Good price at 50€ per night, breakfast included.
As for downsides, the room was very very tiny with barely any room to fit 2 average sized bags and in our case, being the farthest from the lobby, didn't get any wifi signal. Breakfast was also scant, consisting of mostly bread with cheese/ham/jam, yoghurts and 2 cereal options. Finally, there's no dedicated spot to park the car and the roads are fairly crowded so it might not be the...
Read moreMy sister and I spent 2 nights at Ester's charming guest house.||Pros: Ester is so lovely, helpful, and accommodating. The beds were very comfortable with clean fresh linen. Excellent water pressure in the shower. Shabby chic decor which was all hand-painted by Ester. Lovely breakfast. Could not ask for a better location for exploring Chaves. Great value for the cost.||Cons: took a while for water to heat up. We stayed in room 23 and the shower was tight. Parking could be an issue (on street)||I HIGHLY recommend this...
