We had booked room nr 7. Usually I am not much for "rooms with a view" but I have to admit that it was cool to get up in the morning and check if we could see Pico or not or if a cruise or military ship had entered the harbour.||||The room was very spacy and practical. We liked the idea of having a separate "room" before the shower where we could place our things. The bathroom was good, too.||There was a very friendly Portuguese lady serving us breakfast. She did not speak much, but she was nice and helpful. The breakfast was very stubby, a real breakfast for men (and hungry women), too much food actually but it was nice to have a choice, even if I missed some vegetables at time, like cucumber, tomatoes etc.||Parking is possible in the streets close by, and there is a very nice Casa Teahouse & Bar further down the street, where you can have a nice cup of tea, (pan)cakes and vegetarian dishes.||The drawbacks?: The room was not soundproof; you hear the traffic from the street (bring ear plugs). It was quite chilly in the room at this time of the year. I brought a warm pyjama but we were also given a blanket and there was an electrical heater, so it was not really an problem.||The hotel has a lot of stairs, so if stairs are a problem for you, ask about it.||And like in all the hotels we stayed on the Azores I missed somehow a place where I could have dried or cleaned my shoes and clothes. We were out walking a lot and usually came home quite wet and dirty. ||All in all, we enjoyed our stay in Manta Ray...
Read moreI have been coming to Faial for 7 years now, and tried a little bit of everything Horta has to offer in terms of accomodation; Manta Ray Lodge is by far the best I’ve stayed in.||The lodge is in a recently renovated building in Horta, beautifully overlooking Pico. Both room #7 and #4 (at least-these I tried) offer breathtaking views of Portugal’s highest mountain. The sunrises are magical, and you get to see them from the best location if you manage to get a room with a view.||The rooms are bright and spacious, and everything is kept speck clean. Breakfast is served on the dining room together with other guests, and has a bit of everything. For us it was a great start for the day.||All in all, you will feel a little bit of home away from home, and you will leave with a smile every morning for the rest of your Faial’s...
Read moreWe're a family of four staying for one week. All the areas of Manta Ray Lodge and super well decorated. The view towards the marina and Pico island is breathtaking (do yourself a favor and book room #4 or #7, if available). The rooms are beautiful, spacious and comfy at the point I felt like just staying. Everything here has been thought for us to have our own independence and at the same time privacy. The home-made breakfast and service is the cherry on top of the cake: all minute made, including the delicious tortilla I'm already craving for. Looking forward to staying here again...
