Central Suites & Apartments Monchique — Hotel in Monchique

|Having been unable to find our original booking in the mountains somewhere that GPS didn’t cover, we were recommended this place by a café in the town of Monchique.|It is a beautifully quiet and calm area, a little confusing as a village, but we got help with directions and we found the Central Hotel which comes under the heading of Villa Termal. |We were very warmly welcomed by Anna on reception who thankfully had a room available for us for one night…..the room was beautiful, it had a side-view down the garden to the pool.|The village has thermal waters as the title suggests. We went to the “spa” which was far from easy to find and certainly the outside needs a huge amount of sprucing up. We paid the nominal fee to get in where there was use of the pool (original spa waters), and Steam Room. |In the evening we had dinner which was housed in a different building. It was a little chaotic and the Maitre D didn’t seem to know what he was at and the younger waiters appeared not be allowed to serve at table but only clear away, in view of the fact that there was a large group to dine this seemed counterproductive. The system was the same at breakfast.|After dinner we had the remainder of our bottle of wine which we took back to the main hotel building which was beautifully furnished, but no wine glasses to be had. However, the lady on reception got us two glasses and we sat in the beautiful lounge quietly in order to finish our wine. |If there was one suggestion I would make to this hotel is to have a nice piece of old furniture with some red/white wine glasses so that residents can finish their drink off in lovely surrounding and not have to take them to their bedrooms….then it would be perfect.|If in the area again I would definitely...

Estuve por ponerle 2 estrellas, pero remontó sólo y van las 3... Primero que la página web está muy mal diseñada. Es um concepto un poco difícil de entender si no estás allí para verlo. Reservamos una suite en el sector "suites and apartments" y la verdad, un horror. Un lugar muy oscuro y muy viejo. No me vengan con que es "rústico o antiguo" es viejo y sin mantenimiento. Una cosa es el charme de lo antiguo ppr ser un edificio antiguo, pero bien preservado, otra cosa es viejo. Encima está ubicado arriba del bar, o sea q hay ruido de la gente, aunque el bar cierra a la 6pm. Las tarjetas para entrar al edificio donde estaba el cuarto no funcionaban, por suerte apareció una empleada de housekeeping muy simpática que nos abrió las puertas de la habitación. Pedimos cambio de habitación al sector Central Garden, y si están acostumbrados a construcciones más modernas, les aconsejo que se queden allí directamente. Por 12€ más la noche nos quedamos allí y si hubiésemos tenido esa habitación desde el principio, hubiéramos empezado de 10. El cuarto era mucho más luminoso y súper silencioso. Cuando hicimos la reserve por la página, decían si queríamos adicionar un Té de las cinco, por 9,50€ por persona, y pensamos que sería una linda experiencia. En el check in no nos dijeron nada (nada de casi nada, apenas nos dieron el mapa para saber llegar al edificio, pero cuando volvimos por el cambio de habitación, la otra recepcionista le estaba haciendo el check in a un matrimonio y fue mucho más completo, con información sobre el funcionamiento del spa y costo). Preguntamos sobre el te de las 5 en la recepción y nos dijeron que era en el restaurante. Fuimos a las 5pm al restaurante y nadie sabía nada, nos mandaron al bar. Vamos al bar y el señor que estaba tampoco sabía muy bien de qué hablábamos. Llamó a la recepción y les preguntó si teníamos el té de las 5 y les preguntó qué nos servía, y la recepción le dijo "te y pastel". El señor nos muestra los tipos de té de saquito hiper normales y los pasteles que tenia (que como cerraba a las 6pm, no tenía nada, algunos pasteles de nata y poco más). O sea, nada que ver con la experiencia que pensábamos que iba a ser. No voy a pagar 9,50€ por un te y un pastel de nata... asique fuimos a la recepción para que lo removieran. Pero las recepcionistas no tuvieron ningún interés en escuchar la reclamación y sugerencia, ya que no entiendo por qué publicitan algo en la página web que luego nadie sabe lo que es ni está minimamente preparado. Habíamos reservados el restaurante del hotel para cenar, que costaba 25€ por persona pero imagino q sin bebidas. Era noche italiana. Pero despues de lo que había pasado anteriormente, tuvimos miedo que sea un fiasco y nos fuimos a cenar al restaurante Jardim das Oliveiras, a unos 15 minutos del hotel. Y menos mal, porque fue una experiencia excelente! Pueden ver la crítica en mis reviews. El desayuno estuvo bien, bastante completo y tranquilo. Y a la mañana la piscina estuvo muy tranquila también. Tienen piscina para bebes, lo que fue bueno para disfrutar la tarde con mi bebé. En reglas generales, la atención dejó mucho que desear, pero el hotel en sí, si se quedan en el área más moderna (aunque sobre gustos no hay nada escrito) es lindo y calmo. Hay espacio para estacionar desparramado por el resort. Si hacen la reserva en la página web del hotel, tienen 10% de descuento...

We stayed one night as part of a cycle tour. When we arrived the reception staff couldn't find the booking for ages. They didn't seem to care about this, or apologise when it was eventually found.| Our room was a 'charming' grade room looking down onto the square with lots of space and character. A large bathroom and nicely furnished with antiques and a comfortable large bed. However the damp round one of the windows had just been painted over and the windows themselves were rotting in places.|There was a wedding reception taking place in the square, with a live band playing till midnight. The staff didn't mention this to us out of courtesy, or ask if we'd like a quieter room.|The pool area was tatty, with wobbly old decking boards round it, and murky looking water. There was no attention to covid 19 measures round the pool e.g. Sanitiser or wiping down of loungers.|Breakfast was just about ok, but expected much better for this standard of hotel.
