Before reading this review, for £10 a night we were not expecting luxury, but a basic, clean hostel would have sufficed. Well where to start with this place, from the moment you walk in through door you’re hit by an unpleasant smell, this continues throughout the building into the dorms due to the poor ventilation and cramming as many beds as possible into a small room with one window. The lack of space doesn’t stop in the dorm, the kitchen, toilets and common area aren’t big enough for two people never mind a whole hostel. The box shower makes it difficult to wash yourself, that’s if you want to step foot in there in the first place, I took it upon myself to bleach it before my partner got in as it’s quite grimey and looks like it’s not had a proper clean in weeks. This cleanliness seems to be a common theme, we asked for a wipe to clean the area before and after we cooked food but the fella who runs the place said leave it as other people will be using it and he’ll do it at a later time (this I fail to believe). Please take some sort of sleeping bag as the bed next to us didn’t get changed between the changing of people, again I can only assume this is a regular occurrence. The top bunk bed has cardboard between the mattress and the slats, I wouldn’t usually question it but given the state of the rest of the place I thought I’d have a quick look, by now you won’t be surprised to find a mould covered bed. The fella who runs the place has his mates round till midnight smoking shisha and playing music till the early hours, as if the kitchen wasn’t crammed enough they all cook food in there. The WiFi is dreadful, I asked him to restart it and his reply was “well it’s working on my phone” when me and my partner had no connection. We ended up sitting in the shopping centre over the road for a couple of hours to video call family back home. The owner had an outrageous altercation with another customer in the kitchen in front of me making me feel incredibly uncomfortable. The altercation was over a pan that looked extremely cheap and about 10 year old, the customer was an older bloke around late 50s, he kicked him onto the streets in the rain at around 20:00. He seems to be on quite the power trip. Finally I’d question every single one of the good reviews left on this site and other review pages. After noticing the owner left his own positive review on a different site and many other names that lead me to believe they’re friends of the owner. We also noticed more reviews being left by the day from people who hadn’t been there from what we’d seen. To conclude, the place is filthy, small, and the owner is arrogant. If you’re travelling alone I’d probably avoid this place as you won’t feel comfortable. The only positive was the location

Oh where do I start. I had over a week booked at hostel majestic, as soon as I arrived, it was a terrible experience. I arrived with my Portuguese friend, to translate but no one spoke Portuguese at all, they were all hindu and English speaking only. That was a red flag. The place smelt so bad too. At check in, I was asked to pay double city tax, which was sorted out after the reception guy called his manager then spoke on the phone to my friend. After all that, I was taken to my room. I booked a private “double” room but it was far from private. No outside windows, only a window leading to the corridor, no lock on the door even though it’s a private room, it was not a double bed either but a twin bunk bed. Also no lockers or they try to charge you for luggage storage. I did not feel safe in the building. The other residents were mainly old people or what looked like homeless people. My female friend even said that she wouldn’t even stay after going through the front door. The bathrooms were dirty and smelt, old mold everywhere. I had to call booking.com directly because it was not refundable. I talked to the receptionist and all he could say was “we do clean” and “the rooms don’t have locks, only the front door” I didn’t stay at all. I walked out and then booking.com had to contact them to get me a refund directly. I had a great overall trip. I checked into “urban garden Hostel” around the corner the next day and it was so nice!!

An absolute dump of a property. I would definately not stay again. Look at the photos for yourself. 1 bathroom with 2 toilets and 1 shower cubicle for all guests (male and female).1 of the 2 toilets is out of order. The state of the place is feral. And one toilet only has a shower curtain so you can always hear the male staff peeing. The owners should be ashamed of the state they present this place to paying customers. No matter what excuse the owner has, the photos don't lie.

I travel a lot for work and stay in all sorts of place - hostels, apartments, hotels over the years but this place definitely comes in the bottom category. The dormitory itself isn't bad but it was the overall experience.||||The guy who sits at the reception was somehow getting defensive for smallest of requests or issues. I asked for a towel for a shower, and he told me it is 2 Euros. I gave him money and took the towel. Only later I realized that he had given me a small hand towel. I went down to tell him but instead of laughing about it, he said he can give me a bigger towel but I need to give then 2 euros again! I didn't bother continuing this conversation because there was no point.||||Our room AC was on and it was showing 17 degrees as the temperature. Everyone in the dorm room was freezing and they said the guy at the reception has the remote. But I remembered he had left for the day at 10:30 PM, so I contacted the property on Booking dot com to check if there was any way to turn the AC off. I spoke to a person who was very polite and said he is sending his colleague. After 10 minutes the guy from the reception who had left, actually came back and stormed in our dormitory without knocking and started yelling around - "who called and complained?, who called, i want to know who". ||||It was overall a very strange experience. The hostel isn't bad - the bed was comfy and the shower pressure was nice. Although the shower is tiny, I don't mind it since that's the typical hostel norm. But it would be nice to have a door outside the girls shower area for privacy. The location is pretty decent, but the experience was completely messed up because of temper that the reception guy has.||||So is it value for money? No, not for that...
