This is a difficult one to review because some aspects of this hotel are fantastic, others are really poor. First impression was a frosty check in from very unfriendly reception staff member. Our room was not ready until two hours after our arrival, no apology/offer of a drink or place to relax following our journey - not the best start. When we did get to our room it was great, lovely ocean view, large modern room and bathroom - all good there. There isn't a huge selection of food available for each meal. It was okay for a week because the offer differed each day, but the lunchtime cold options reappeared for evening meals too. The gym (which was a big factor in us booking this hotel) is open to local members and like many gyms clearly has "regulars" who dominate the equipment. It was never quiet and we felt intimidated by the staff who were present as we were easily identifiable as "hotel guests" . The real downside for us was the service at evening meals. One evening it took 25 minutes to be offered a drink. Plates were never cleared unless we asked . . We realised that as all inclusive visitors we did not get the attention of any of the waiting staff who were very obviously attentive to paying guests (we had already paid as identified by our wristbands) We're not loud or obnoxious, we don't drink lots - but do enjoy some wine with our evening meal. If we had a glass for every time the waiting staff walked past us we may have enjoyed our evenings a lot more. The cleanliness levels of the hotel are okay - not exceptional. The all inclusive isn't "all" . Additional charges are made for many drinks/more than one pool towel per stay/use of the safe. Several evenings there were no coffee machines operating to get an evening drink unless you waited at the bar which had a long queue (probably due to the poor table service) Locally it's well connected through the local public bus (155) to Funchal, but otherwise there's not too much around. We wouldn't return. It clearly has some appeal but good service and a friendly smile are a must and they were lacking when we visited. *Additional following hotel response Many thanks for reading and giving feedback. For further info, the guy who was on reception early morning to check us out was lovely and a credit to your hotel. Wished he had been there to check us in! Also, the lady with the trolley who clears away at breakfast time...
Read moreI spent 3 nights at the hotel at Superior room which included a kitchinette. I am rating the hotel regarding also the 4-star status and the price.
I have seen a lot of places where evident cut of costs is seen. These are details, but as there is a lot of them it destroys the impression of a nice hotel from the offer.
The room as a piece of architecture is nice and well looking. When it comes to how equipped it is I can say that bed is comfortable but bed sheets are awful. They are made from artificial material and they make me sweaty, not warm. The kitchinette equipment is very poor, just two pieces of each glasses or plates with no dishwasher so it involves constant dishwashing by hand. There is one bin for all the trash with no sorting. The kettle is the cheapest plastic one. I really miss at least a moca pot to prepare coffee at the room. There are just bags with instant coffee. The safe will not fit a laptop, you need to carry additional key for it, and it is additionally paid. Going around the hotel I really miss some decoration on corridors, and it feels really empty there like walking around a hospital.
We were at all-inclusive trip, and the meals were quite tasty, but sometimes there was a little lack of choice especially when it comes to salads on breakfast. However, once we ordered a soup outside of the standard meals and it was dull with no taste. After using additional spices brought by the waiter it became eatable. When it comes to these spices, they are standard, but quite a low standard. I used a little of vinegar to that soup, and it is a very nasty one. Coffee at breakfast has milk foam made from probably powder milk, and this milk is with added sugar, so any coffee with milk is oversweaten even if somebody drinks with no sugar. Cappuchino is very sweat as it involves instant cacao xD - not drinkable for me.
One word about Spa area - it is nice, around 4/5 and there are also swimming pools outaide, but swimming suites are required in saunas what is...
