If you are wanting a cheap hotel and are not picky on cleanliness/facilities or how it looks then this is the place for you. Better suited probably for Stag Parties as they do not charge any form of deposits on rooms, and the staff do not interact with you at all, unless you speak to them and then it is very unfriendly and unhelpful. You definitely wouldn’t want to come on romantic break/couples holiday here.
There is a nice view of the castle, which is about a 20min walk from the hotel. But lots of graffiti and derelict buildings unfortunately spoil the view also.
The room feels like it has been left in the 1950’s, as soon as we walked in we noted a musty smell, with old style bed spreads that fit single beds and scratchy blankets on top of a thin sheet, I could not bare to use the blankets so became quite cold at night. The beds are like stone and very hard to sleep on, the pillows are more like cushions so cannot get comfortable and they only provide one spare, so if there is 2 you would need to ask for another. No fridge in the room to store any food/drinks, plug sockets are placed randomly and sparsely around the room. No USB ports anywhere.
Our bathroom was awful, with lots of ants found each morning we went in to use it, oddly set out with a toilet that hides behind the bathroom door, the bath was not desirable at all, with a discoloured shower curtain to avoid water spillage, it made the floor very wet and slippery to walk on. When we turned on the xpelair fan to clear the steam from the bathroom, we could smell burning plastic so quickly turned off, which explained the musty smell in the room!
When we woke up the bedroom was covered in condensation with or without the aircon on.
Breakfast was very poor, only dry, over cooked scrambled eggs, mini hot dog sausages as hot foods available, dry, stale bread, croissants or brioche rolls available.
The service is incredibly slow as they only have one member of staff running the reception & bar at the same time and when talking to them they are not interested in your queries or concerns and become quite rude if you ask them a question.
Overall I really wouldn’t recommend this hotel, much better to spend a bit more money and be comfortable and enjoy your stay as not tons to do in this area, so you end up staying in the hotel more than you expect...
Read moreLovely hotel! It ranks as 3 stars but I give it 5 stars based on my experience. Obviously you should not have high expectations as it is not a 5 star hotel but the staff is wonderful and kind, all was very good organized and adapting to the covid-19 standards. Very clean, our room was tidied every day. The bathrooms are renovated which is a huge plus! The bed was comfortable and big (around 160-180 cm wide)
We came by a car from Spain and wanted a hotel in a good location to explore different areas during our stay. The location was perfect: very close to the highway, free private parking with no reservation required (not sure about high season though, we went in September). Also the hotel is not in the centre of the town but on the edge which also meant easy and fast access and exit. To the closest beaches (Benagil, Marina, Carvoeiro) it took 15-20 min by a car. Lagos and Albufeira around 30 min. Also there are a lot of good restaurants close by.
The view from the breakfast terrace is amazing! And the village is calm, no noise problems. The pool is very nice with a little garden. Reception 24h. We booked the cheapest room that should have been with no views but were upgraded to the castle view side (probably because of good availability). Thanks for that!
The staff was so professional and kind and made us feel very welcomed all the time. Our stay was short (3 days) but we shall definitely come back to this hotel soon, when next time will be...
Read moreThe positives ||The hotel is situated next to the town an easy walk down the hill and across the bridge and you are in the old town full of restaurants and bars.||The hotel has free parking which is a big bonus but it does get busy.||The pool area is lovely and quiet it seems in the past it had a pool bar which is sadly now redundant and it's quite a hike to the main bar.||The room was very nice but dated I call it rustic all areas are very clean and the cleaning staff are lovely and very efficient.||Things that could be better ||The breakfast is dismal it's dire most mornings we were scrabbling for coffee cups and juice glasses the choice is very limited if you like a hearty breakfast then forget it. If you like a bit of toast and fruit then fine.||The rooms are basic we really missed having a fridge especially as the hotel only did breakfast their website is very out of date and there is no evening restaurant kettle we did bring ourselves but struggled with milk if you do across get some cartons or use powdered. The bathroom was basic and very small. We stayed in 413 which is over the restaurant and every morning it sounded like a removal firm had moved in banging and tables being dragged. It's a quiet hotel no...
