I don’t even know where to start… This has got to be one of the most beautiful venues in Silves with so much potential. Sadly it was one of the worst meals I’ve had in the 6 years I’ve lived here.

From the get-go the service was awful. I ordered an espresso martini. What should have been the usual vodka, coffee liqueur and coffee was Cointreau and coffee, very watery and (very wrongly) orangey. The bar maid argued this was “her way” of serving it. It was vile. So I tried again and ordered a caipirinha. Thinking surely with only 3 ingredients, 4 if you include ice, what could go wrong. What came was a glass of mostly ice, sugar and lemon. Yep, lemon. And maybe some Cachaça.(See photo) When returning it for the second time the now-irate bar maid again argued this was how you made them. With lemon and not lime. It was like a sweet alcoholic lemon ice tea. Upon showing her every single recipe and Google image of a caipirinha filled with fresh lime that wasn’t bright yellow, she still claimed we were wrong. So apparently the landowning farmers of Brazil who created the drink and the entire internet are incorrect.

We were totally shocked with how rude she was, clearly with a massive chip on her shoulder. I don’t think she was too familiar with the term “the customer is always right”. So we asked to speak the manager who brought another one out, this time with lime. She was very friendly but even after explaining the situation and her staffs terrible attitude, there was no apology.

The food was even worse… we had a garlic flatbread to share that can only be described as a limp and chewy sliver of something with a splash of garlic oil slapped on one part (see photo). The fish platter was totally over done, everything was chewy and dry. We were told we would get potatoes as part of the side dish which were forgotten. I queried this but stated we didn’t want them as it was halfway through the meal, I just wanted to let them know they’d forgotten. The waiter proceeded to bring us some fries.

Same with the lamb tagine (which by the way is not labelled as “tagine” on the menu, like all other dishes that were in fact tagines, so you have to ask if you want to know which ones they are) - the meat was super tough. The chicken (tagine) was apparently passable and the swordfish again overdone.

We were asked by the manager how the food was. We all said not good. She smiled and walked off.

I nearly cried having to pay €54 for a chewy overdone fish platter that I wouldn’t even serve my dog. In the Algarve of all places, one of the best places in the world for fish. We were told they were short staffed which IMO is no excuse - limit the number of tables you accept and serve better quality food and drinks.

On the way out we spoke with another disappointed table let down for multiple reasons, I felt awful as they were on holiday. The reason I’m not giving this 1 star is because of the lovely Turkish server who was polite, friendly and apologetic. She is the only reason. Maybe we (and the other table) just got unlucky. Anyway, if you go...

Nice restaurant decorated and right in the main road of the historical centre of Silves. Environment is nice and the landlady is very welcoming and accomodating. Pity the food is not up to the real Algarve standards, seems more focused on providing “tourist food” and a bit misleading. Ad example I ordered the couvert which states it is marinated olives and Algarve carrots. What I got was the usual canned olives that you can find in any pub or place around the world and pickles. No sight of the olives and carrots advertised on the menu. I ordered then the grilled calamari and they came with fries. I don’t know if because I am not portuguese they thought I deserved tourist food or this is their standard. But surely that’s not the way you dish calamari in Portugal. They go with real potatoes, not fries. Shame.

We enjoyed sitting on the terrace surrounded by plants in this beautiful small street in Silves, sadly the food didn't succeed in convincing us and the service was mediocre at best. We did like the hummus and carrots we had as a starter though. But the house specialties we ordered were a total disappointment. We went for the veal Silves style (with figs, sweet potatoes and roasted almonds) and the Algarvina veal (with artichoke haerts, saffron sauce, lemons and olives). First of all, a stew needs to be warm, hot even, the dishes we got presented were lukewarm at best and the meat was kind of dry and not as flavorful as you might expect from a house specialty. We found the food really mediocre, as was the service. We regretted not eating somewhere else.
