Never stay in this hotel if you look for a nice, friendly and professional place to stay! 1 star given here is even too much! Super unfriendly and highly unprofessional staff!! Hotel needs maintenance and was not looked after.
About the rooms and hotel itself: First of all we didn’t receive the room we booked. We booked 2 rooms, a triple and a double room with balcony. There was no balcony and NO explanation from the staff why. Further more the AC didn’t work properly. The room was super hot and didn’t cool down at all. Plus we received only 1 card for the double room which forced us to turn the AC off every time we left the room which caused that the room was super hot every time we came back. Further more, the shower was leaking and the water was dripping the whole time after taking a shower. Additionally the room was dirty with a huge spider net in the corner of the bathroom door.
About the staff: The person working at the check in was very unfriendly and unpleasant from the first moment we entered the hotel. There was no feeling of being welcome in the hotel. When looking for the pool, the staff member working at the check in bumped with the door into one of us without even apologising and actually even reacting annoyed.
Now coming to the reason why we left the hotel in the middle of the night: We went to the hotel with our 2 dogs as this hotel is calling itself “pet friendly”. We left our dogs in one of the rooms for about 3 hours because we went for dinner. Apparently - according to the check in person - the dogs started to bark right after we left them (something we never experienced with our dogs until then, otherwise we wouldn’t have left them by themselves in the hotel room of course). No doubt that this was for sure an unpleasant and annoying situation for everyone residing in the hotel, but instead of calling us right away, he called us 3 hours later, but not to tell us that the dogs are barking and to ask us in a friendly and professional way if we can please come back because the dogs are barking, but actually talking to us in a super rude way, telling us that if we won’t come back right now, he would go into the room and kick the dogs out on the street followed by just hanging up the phone without even saying anything else. After we came back to the hotel, we, of course, deeply apologised and told him that it’s the first time that something like this happened and he responded very rude and unfriendly by asking if we would also go to all other guests apologising. This staff member definitely shouldn’t work in customer service.
Following the staff’s rude, unfriendly and highly unprofessional service and behaviour, we packed our stuff and left the hotel in the middle of the night as we preferred to drive back 3.5hrs to our original place than staying in this hotel even though everything was payed for already!!!
I don’t recommend this hotel at all!! If it would be possible I would give...
Read moreMy husband and I have just left the hotel this morning after a 4 day stay on our first time in Portugal. Before booking, we were slightly hesitant as the hotel only carried a one star rating. However, we were pleasantly surprised as the hotel staff were very helpful, smart and polite, rooms were clean, tidy and comfortable and breakfast was fresh and plentiful. I have a severe pet allergy but realised this hotel was pet friendly, so when expressing my concerns to the gentleman on reception, i was assured that although he couldn't guarantee anything, he would make sure the room was thoroughly cleaned. The room was spotless and the pillows still slightly damp as they must have been washed. I had no allergic reactions at all therefore the room must have been deep cleaned. The outdoor pool was clean and tidy although a litttle soulless, would be better with a bar/snack area/pool service to enhance the outdoor pool facility. Our stay would have been better if rooms had a kettle etc and there was a bar in the hotel but this has been reflected in the star rating and price compared with other nearby hotels. A huge concern is where the hotel is situated, by the side of a very busy national highway with no walk way and the only route to access the town with the nearest bars, restaurants and shops. The walk to climb over the barrier to access a pavement or footpath is absolutely terrifying and should never ever be attempted with children. I would advise always getting a taxi to and from town as it's very cheap at €4.50. This hotel (motel) would be perfect for the price if there was a bridge to safely walk across to access any facilities. Once in the town, there's lots of atmosphere and the hotel is very close and convenient. To summarise, Don Rodreagus is lovely, its only the location that lets it down which is such a shame as the hotel has a lot...
Read moreRating by the door was a one star but should be rated a bit higher.||Was given a 3) bed room (3 x twin beds) which was ok, except the 3rd bed took up precious room space. Room was clean, shower was clean, entire hotel appeared clean. ||Friendly and helpful staff.||Free parking was available.|Hotel is near the road but did not notice any undue noise at night.||Hotel has a nice patio and a pool. Vending machines are available on property. ||Close enough to Tavira town to walk, just need to navigate the roundabout carefully. Walking in the middle of summer may not be advisable though. ||Room had a well functioning and quiet A/C. ||A small refrigerator was available.||Breakfast was good and included in the room rate. The pastries were very good. Also available was a variety of breads, jams, some cold cuts and cheese and a bowl of chunky fruits. |Coffee (machine) was somewhat typical of the area, coffee came out either too strong or too weak. Ended up using the black setting and adding my own milk. It's a bit odd that the traditional coffee milk available in most northern European countries was not available. |3 types of juices were dispensed from the machine with the orange being the best.|Scrambled eggs smelled a bit fishy, also somewhat typical of the area, believe it is due to chickens being fed fish meal.||There was a restaurant attached to the hotel specializing in rotisserie chicken, not sure if the restaurant was part of the hotel or independent. Price was very reasonable. Only complaint would be that meals are often served with only boiled or french fried potatoes, and lettuce with tomato salad.||If visiting Tavira head to Santa Luzia and A Casa restaurant and try the...
