Pensiunea Izvoare — Hotel in Băile Olănești

This review is only for the restaurant, we didn't stay there. And I cannot give less than Excellent: -the place is cozy, not big, gives a home-like feeling; -on the tables there is: real olive oil, balsamic vinegar, Himalayan salt (mill), 5-brands pepper (mill); by comparison, in (probably) every other restaurant in Olanesti (we visited a few and saw some others from outside) there is grounded salt & pepper, white vinegar and tasteless oil ... if any. -good quality cutlery; -and, getting to the food, it is very good: had there one dinner and one lunch (menu of the day). The pasta were correctly cooked and the "mititei" were juicy. We saw other plates around us and they all looked very well. The portions are decent to large. For the lunch, the meatloaf soup (ciorba de perisoare) could have been tastier/sourer, but the stewed cabbage saved the day. I would have preferred fresh sausages instead of "Cabanos" sausages, but that's just me. The pancakes were the best we had in Olanesti (tried like 3-4 places), both the dough and the jam. -the staff was friendly and helpful both times; didn't wait long either. -finally, the prices are decent, not the cheapest place, but not in the "fancy" range either; some benchmark: menu of the day (soup, 2nd course + side dish, desert) - 35 lei; mititei - 4 lei/pc; beetroot salad - 7 lei. Big room, big balcony, small bathroom.||Not so clean and the walls are very thin, so don't sneeze.||At the ground floor is a restaurant, but because we choose half board, they send us 1 km in the valley, at a very nice restaurant with a very friendly prices and very good food.||But ... we accommodate there 4 nights, so ... nobody ask us about toilet paper (which was missing from the beginning), or about the towels, or if we need a brrom to clean our rooms, so ... 4 nights are too much.||And two of my friends have rooms with view at the smoke house, from the kitchen = great view,...

Good service unfortunately cannot make up for food that is below average. The food doesn't look like in the pictures from the menu and the taste is far from enjoyable. It's ok if you don't have any expectations, but otherwise, you're better off somewhere else. They might be good in accommodation, I don't know, but their kitchen leaves a lot...
