Upon arrival we were informed we’d been moved into the main hotel rather than the Annex, due to a significant lack of guests (we were alone almost entirely until Friday morning). This was very much a welcome we were pleased to receive. Finding a sex-aid complete with bottle of lubricant in one of the bedside drawers, not so much. This was quickly and carefully disposed of, leaving a rather poor reflection on the attention to detail from the in-house staff.||||The Reception provided suitably inconsistent and humorous service from the outset; from the wonderfully forthcoming and helpful Anga to counterpart Male colleague who seemed confounded at offering even basic customer service for the most part.||||Sadly, the bar refused to allow any service at any point, however we did obtain ice buckets on a couple of occasions.||||Breakfast was decidedly lavish when we two were believed to be the sole inhabitants, but the food was of a satisfactory nature and plenty of it. The croissant lottery also very much kept us on our toes each morning.||||The room itself warm and comfortable, if a little dated, however there are no facilities for boot warming / equipment drying so do note if using the hotel as a ski-base. Also no kettle provided, and without bar service tea & coffee are missed, as are any...
Read moreVery good value for money — I’d give 5 stars just for that. This isn’t a regular hotel; the place truly has a soul. Sure, the Dracula theme isn’t the most original idea for Romania, but they went all in: they built an entire castle-like hotel, decorated the walls with real old weapons, and used authentic, old-fashioned touches like red carpets, mirrors, and candlelight. If you’re looking for something special, this is definitely a place to go. The staff also do their best to make your stay feel personal. At night, it’s very quiet — you can even hear the wind and rustling leaves, which adds to the authentic atmosphere.
Now for the negatives: The cheapest rooms are tiny, located in the attic on the 3rd floor, and there’s no elevator — not ideal for older guests. There’s also no AC, so staying in the attic can be tough on hot days. Breakfasts are basic and not really worth €10. The hotel clearly needs some renovation — the age is showing. My shower was leaking, and some mattresses could use replacing.
That said, the price is so reasonable that I’m willing to overlook these inconveniences. Still, if it were up to me, I’d invest in some renovations and charge a bit more — many guests would gladly pay extra for such a unique concept done at a...
Read moreLooking a little further away from the modern kitsch of a medieval fantasy called House of Dracula, we were struck by 4-star indolence rather than a 4-star hotel. The price is too high for:||||A room, where 1) the furniture is out of date and not functional, 2) the carpet smells awful, 3) the cabinet door has a faulty hinge, 4) the outside door to the balcony does not close tightly, 5) the terrace table has broken mosaic and cannot be used by customers; we asked to be replaced with something else and we were denied.||||In the dining room, at breakfast, 1) it is hard to imagine that if you get late you will find something to eat, 2) dirty tablecloths, which the waiters have not replaced, 3) Strange is the mutual motto: without lunch and dinner at the restaurant. We avoided the bar.||||The bathroom, even if it gives the impression that it is reasonably well maintained, 1) the shower cabin is rusted, here and there, 2) the shower gel holder is fragile hanging by a broken handle.||||The ridiculous of the situation was when we were given 3 days in a row some "welcome" peanuts, wine, etc. But it turned out that those "attention" were just to "cut us off some money". A hotel that has respect for its clients displays a room service list of products and prices. Not here though.||||Our conclusion is a simple one. We do not recommend this hotel and restaurant, as staff and management lack professionalism, attention to detail and hospitality.||||As for Poiana Brasov: remains famous by name and without quality services. Are noroc cu natura,...
