Dont spend your money on an expensive hotel in the centre of town with tourist trap restaurants when you can stay a quick metro trip away in a local neighborhood. ||||We made this hotel our base for exploring Moscow for six days. We brought a train pass and used this for sightseeing and returned each night to dine with the locals. The train station is a short walk down the street and trains leave it seems every two minutes. ||||Back to the hotel. The building has been coverted into a hotel and being a mercure has all of the comforts you need. Rooms are clean and cosy with a great bed and hot shower with good water pressure and toiletries. Staff are super friendly. We had room 413 which faced the street. Its a busy thoroughfare with buses and trams but the heavy glazing cuts out this noise and its not intrusive. ||||Wifi was strong in the room but weak in the dining room. Breakfast here is expensive 900 roubles each and is not winner. Hot food was cold and the orange joice was reconstituted. After one breakfast we went to the deli cafe on the corner and had breakfast for a fraction of the price with the locals. There is a bakery and cafe in the same block as well. ||||Dont get your laundry done here. Its the most expensive we have seen anywhere. Its cheaper to go down to the mall and buy new underwear than to get your existing stuff washed here. ||||Getting there and away: we arrived by transfer from Moscow station after getting off the trans siberian. To get back there cost 315 roubles with yandex and a good half hour depending on the traffic. ||||We would stay here again for the stellar location and eat...

Read moreThe hotel was great!! Stayed here last week while in Moscow. Had a great stay! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was super nice. Loved the shower!!! Bed was extremely comfortable! Never had any issues with the Wifi either which was important as we worked some from the room. I really recommend staying here and would do so again. Thanks to the staff for helping make the stay enjoyable!
I would like to leave a separate note for The Butchery, the associated restaurant in the hotel. My advice is, if you do not speak Russian, do not eat here as it can be very challenging. We ate here Monday morning for breakfast. The hostess could not speak English but was very friendly and we were still able to sit, eat the buffet, then pay.
Our "service" the next day was terrible. The previous hostess was not there, and this new guy was extremely rude. Only English he seemed to be able to speak was to tell us that we would have to pay first before eating. After giving him our credit cards, he swiped them, then literally threw them back at us. Seriously, he threw them over the bar and looked at us like he was disgusted!! I've been a lot of places and have never seen such horrible behavior in any staff. When we asked for a receipt (needed as this was for a business expense) he just went in the kitchen and we never saw him come back out. Eventually a friendly employee was able to help and provide a receipt.
I will say that the food was good, and that they put out a really good amount and variety of...
